Alright people let's talk about organized religions and holy texts here, for every single quote Jesus made god has said three things that are evil, sexist and sadistic but of course god loves you.

1 - “I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.” (1 Timothy 2:12)
2 - “This is what the Lord Almighty says... ‘Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’” (1 Samuel 15:3)
3 - “Do not allow a sorceress to live.” (Exodus 22:18)
4 - “Happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us – he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.” (Psalm 137:9)
5 - “So the man took his concubine and sent her outside to them, and they ****d her and abused her throughout the night, and at dawn they let her go. At daybreak the woman went back to the house where her master was staying, fell down at the door and lay there until daylight. When her master got up in the morning and opened the door of the house and stepped out to continue on his way, there lay his concubine, fallen in the doorway of the house, with her hands on the threshold. He said to her, ‘Get up; let’s go.’ But there was no answer. Then the man put her on his donkey and set out for home.” (Judges 19:25-28)
6 - “In the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error.” (Romans 1:27)
7 - “And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord, and said, ‘If you will give the Ammonites into my hand, then whoever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return victorious from the Ammonites, shall be the Lord’s, to be offered up by me as a burnt-offering.’ Then Jephthah came to his home at Mizpah; and there was his daughter coming out to meet him with timbrels and with dancing. She was his only child; he had no son or daughter except her. When he saw her, he tore his clothes, and said, ‘Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low; you have become the cause of great trouble to me. For I have opened my mouth to the Lord, and I cannot take back my vow.’” (Judges 11:30-1, 34-5)
8 - ‘Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt-offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you.’ (Genesis 22:2)

I could keep making quotes but I am noxious from all this religious madness, this is what the bible says so how in the hell is it an religion of peace or of love. It is not, if you believe it to be then read an bible and don't listen to the Preacher man who want's your money and obedience, keep the world secular and not forced to bow to the whims of evil men. My grandfather was an preacher in Colorado and he hated me because I was an child born of wedlock, he thought I was literally the devil's child. Christianity is an religion of hate as are the preachers of any church, Caliphate or synagogue and you can look at all the war-crimes done by Israel to Palestine an nation that predates Israel, also research the policy Germany pursued before the Final Solution and Endseig or "Final Victory" in English was implemented. America, Britain and France carried out Hitlers own agenda post world war two by deporting European Jews through out Europe into the Middle East, Palestine accepted terms which where broken and now all that is left is the Gaza Strip... Tell me all you want that these faiths are peaceful but the facts and history prove that organized religion is an tool for mind control and total domination of the poor and uneducated individuals. Oh and for those who don't know Zion is the concept that the Jewish people deserve to own Israel though it's roots come from white supremacists who loved the Nazi's and wanted to deport Jews to Israel though it's founder Theodor Herzl was Jewish and killed by an Christian Zionist extremist after seeing how racists liked his ideas as he began to regret writing his idea for an Jewish homeland, this is why the Jewish Minority say's it is racist to call them Zionists in the modern day even if they are by all accounts, an Zionist.

Jesus didn’t say those things & he’s King. He said love thy neighbor & do unto others as you’d want them to you. Anyone in history who’s tried forcing any beliefs against the Non Aggression Principle aren’t following Jesus’ teachings.

You’re completely wrong & Jesus warned of false prophets & hypocrites. Although Pope or anyone who came after him can’t overrule Jesus. (See most of your quotes are Old Testament stuff which much of it Jesus said didn’t apply.)

Many of the early Christian got burned by those who didn’t understand his teachings at all.

Who exactly was speaking with the Jews & when is interesting; not sure if same entity always. However commandment Catholics cut out reveals the most about himself.

Bible reference - Exodus 20:4-6: “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.”

But Jesus actually overturned a lot of the Old Testament beliefs Jews had before being crucified, like circumcising kids & blood sacrifices.

Although before the reformation, Roman Catholic Church probably would have considered me a heretic for having my own interpretations. Back then not many could read. So could be easily manipulated into thinking false stuff is in Bible. Although Jesuit oath from way back was maybe one of the most unchristian things I’ve read. Not sure how they are now exactly; other than now they have the white Pope as well.

"God" and "Jesus" aren't whatever they were written as in the bible as we know it today. It's based off a translation of a language that a translator didn't exist for. And even then, there's enough hypocritical stuff between the old testament and new testament to throw anyone with more than 100 brain cells off.

Any religion relies on blind faith. And if that's your thing so be it. But trying to debate what is right or wrong based on that is a folks errand.
Anarch_Nexus [2735811]
Jesus was consistent. Who was speaking with the Jews is debatable. Since seemed mostly concerned with the Jews & expanded Old Testament was very concerned over affairs of nations & who the Jews should fight, etc. I view the Old Teatament as background, with Book of Giant & Book of Enoch among the most interesting even of Enoch isn’t included in standard Bible anymore & book of giants discovered in Dead Sea scroll. However was the Romans who largely decided what books to include from there. Christians are most focused on New Testament & don’t believe in much of what the Jews do. Only Catholics think any human is infallible.

(Don’t think many do anymore with most recent Pope though)

Is kind of funny so many assume all Christians are Jewish in most beliefs though.

Jesus = God

God in the old testament:

If you're under 18 and drink, get stoned to death
If you commit heresy, stoned to death
If you steal, anything, take the hand

And on and on and on.

Sorry, but I'll leave the faith up to people like you. Especially Christianity.
Anarch_Nexus [2735811]
You have no clue what you’re talking about & have Islam, Christianity & Judaism all mixed up. Anyone who does anything you said would be committing hell worthy sin.
Edit: Hand thing I dunno, but that’s an Islam thing.

Also Jesus turned water into wine, if you think Christians (real ones) consider alcohol or drugs a sin; you're insane. I mean there are some athiests who believe pedophilia should be legal; shall I assume you think so as well just because some nutjobs exist?

Also don't feel like describing the exact nature of God, since while I have my ideas. I'm not completely sure on the relation between the father, son and holy spirit.

100%. You can pull anything out of context out of the Old Testament, New Testament, Quran, etc. and have a problem with it. That's why you need to understand the historical context as well and not just piecemeal it.

  • Jesus never existed, Romans kept meticulous records on the matter and he is actually an mixture of different historical figures as is Mohammad from the Qur'an. Not an single shred of evidence exists to support that he or the holy grail exist and as per the the supposed nails driven into his wrists held in France, that is just some rusty nails they found in an cave. And as I said how does that change god being an vengeful spiteful being? Genocide, starvation, plagues and painful childbirth, oh and he kicked Lilith out of the garden of Eve for not being Adams possession and made Eve out of Adams rib just for that purpose. Sexism, bigotry, genocide and so many other crimes as it says to burn any text that argues against god in Leviticus 11:12

religion done right can be pretty awesome, but too many people are assholes and use ancient texts for their own means. ancient religious texts wont really fix people with no empathy, maybe scare them from putting their hand in their neighbor's cookie-jar but thats about it.
    PipeHitter [2687718]
Fun fact - The existence of Pontius Pilate, the Roman prefect who is said to have sentenced Jesus to death, was only historically proven in 1961. Until then the only other mention of him was the New Testament and the same historians who claim Jesus was real. A prefect was a big deal back then.

There is many texts claiming that Jesus was not the Messiah and was instead just a talented charlatan or magician, but none from that period that claim he did not exist at all. So arguing that Jesus didn't exist is a weak argument - even atheist scholars don't try that one. You are better off arguing he was not the Messiah, there is at least some evidence for that.
    Divinitywolf [2160704]
I agree but isn't it somewhat disheartening that the main messages of God would be conveyed in such a badly communicated collection of texts?

Religious texts are some of the most widely interpreted books in existence because the meaning is often ambiguous. Why wouldn't any God want to communicate their message more clearly to avoid obvious confusion?

There is still constant debate amongst biblical scholars over many parts of the bible and these are people who spend their lives studying the text and trying to understand the historical context.
    Viracocha [1772040]
I think religious texts are merely the collection of human experience and put in writings with the best possible frame of mind.

There is much we still don't know about our own ancient history, and much of contemporary view is childlike and incorrect.

Some of our history is being hidden. Why?
    Viracocha [1772040]
and we are seeing in Canada among the Pakistani death threats from abroad over criticism of their blasphemy laws...

I doubt that would happen with Christianity in modern times.
    Viracocha [1772040]
In Islam, they believe Jesus existed and was a prophet. He's even in the Hadiths

    Jesus

Interestingly, many Muslims don't realize this.
    PipeHitter [2687718]
Translation issues is part of the problem. Take Exodus 20:5, typically translated as God being a jealous god. Doesn't sound too good does it? The Hebrew word for jealous is qanna, which also means zealous. Same with Latin and zelus. Two different meanings from one word, so it definitely has cultural ties you need to be familiar with as well. I think it's an individual study more than anything.
    famin [2240672]
The Bible is the word of Jesus and God as recorded by men, and then in this case translated to English. It was also assembled over the course of hundreds of years by different transcribers and prophets. The writings of these imperfect humans contradict each other, however the message that God and Jesus love us and that Jesus died for us are consistent throughout the New Testament. Matt 22, verses 34-40 Jesus clearly states that the most important laws for people is to love God and love thy neighbor. As Christians, we should always strive to improve and show more love and compassion to others.

    Edit:
This post is called a “debate”, but it’s really just you taking The Bible out of context and dunking on Christianity.
