Anyone around here into building models of any kind? I'm currently thinking of building tank models (history nerd) and wanted some advice tips that anyone would think benefits of a newbie in the craft.

I was big into model warships and fight planes/bombers. An adjustable light is nice, having a model knife, one with the replaceable razer blades, and small files help. Practice on some cheaper models first. Nail polish is nice for the small, detailed paint and you wont spend whatever for a vial of paint you may only need a few drops for.
And study your history. Know your subject, look at muliple photos...

Buy paints in dropper bottles to avoid wastage. Vallejo are a good brand.
Pick up some make-up brushes for dry-brushing. They're very very cheap and 1000 times better than hobby dry-brushes.
If you're going to be painting mostly vehicles, looking in to air brushes might be worthwhile. For little soldiers and whatnot, it's overkill until you know what you're doing.
Practicing mixing paint is very important. You need very few pigments if you understand a bit of color theory.
