Hello, I have an question that I have pondered for sometime, and after not being able to figure out by myself or see another thread regarding these questions, I have decided to see if the community has any answers. It’s an rather weird question, so mind me if you don’t like/have any information about it. Thanks in advance for your help in satisfying my curiously.

How is the Quality of an Weapon (For Example Armalite) determined? And will I have an chance of getting an yellow or above quality weapon from Big Gun’s Al Shop by buying weapons from there daily? I noticed that you can buy weapons aboard such as in Mexico. Do I have any chance of getting an Yellow or above Quality weapon from there? Is it all RNG or there’s an special method to get high quality weapons? Where do High Quality Weapons come from besides Ranked War caches?

I’am sorry if I’am asking too much questions to be tasteful. I’am an curious dude, somewhat uneducated regarding Torn. Please politely answer the questions, I’m seeking real answers that can be proven/confirmed correct. Answer and Discuss below.

It's randomly determined, but not straight RNG. That is to say, the chance of getting a 20% weapon(relatively common) is MUCH higher than getting a 50% weapon(Somewhat rare), which is still MUCH higher than getting a 70% weapon(very rare) which is still MUCH higher than getting a 90% weapon and so on.

Item quality is determined when the item is created, and the way quality is determined, while you can get a super high quality weapon from Big Al's shop(as well as overseas, city finds, wheel spins, etc.), you would likely have to buy hundreds or thousands of them in order to actually see one.

Yeah, but why don’t I see weapon hunting? Is it ineffective? I bought 25 samurai swords and got one with about 50% quality. I mean, getting an high quality weapon can be worth tens of hundreds of millions

Because of the hassle of it. For the best stuff(aside from caches) you have to fly overseas, you can only buy so many at a time(27 max without books/holiday), and then sorting through the inventory, figuring out pricing, finding buyers, etc..

Some people have anecdotally been able to make profit off of it, and it's occasionally brought up in the forums, but really making good money off of it is a crapshoot and while you can profit off of it. there are other ways of making money that are far more efficient and consistent.

I'm not saying to not do it, but there's a lot more work involved(almost as much as actively trading) and less reward compared to that effort involved unless you actually get extremely lucky and get a VERY high quality weapon/armor.

Sure. I wonder if this will spark an revolution or something regarding buying weapons. But despite this, I’am going to keep buying weapons until I hit the jackpot or something. Demand for insanely powerful weapons still exist.

selling weapons is definitely harder than selling armors simply because they have two+ stats vs just the armor rating.

its also a game of who can keep the most low priced weapons in stock to make their bazaar's show up in the 3 listed (wtb item market rework soon lol)

you may have decent luck finding good weapons but actually moving them is hard. forum posts, trade chat spamming, having a well stocked bazaar all help though.
