Outside of using a script, how do you gauge your weapon experience?

I know that I'm gaining some because it's getting easier to hit my targets with some of my weapons. However, how can I guess my experience?

Also, is this experience for a weapon type (smg, rif, pistol, etc) or specific weapons ( Jackhammer as opposed to Mags)?

Weapon XP is specific weapons. (Jackhammer as opposed to Mags)

Finishing hits merits are weapon type.

Weapon XP can be seen in an item's description.
Your weapon XP for everything can be pulled from the API: https://api.torn.com/user/?selections=weaponexp&key=[YOUR API KEY]

Tornstats and YATA show it in terms of XP and hits. You need 2000 hits per weapon for 100% XP, but the XP gain slows as you approach 100%, so your XP moves fast early on. Torntools also shows your XP for each equipped weapon in the attack window.

As the person above me said, you need to complete the combat bachelor to unlock weapon xp, only after that can you start gaining it, and the meter is shown under your weapon in character display in the items section once you do. It also shows on attack page it you're using torntools.

It probably due to your training that your targets are getting easier to beat.
As mentioned, you need to complete the Combat Education Degree.
This unlocks weapon experience.
Weapon experience is gained on individual weapons so Armalite weapon experience is separate to Le Enfield weapon experience even though they are both rifles.
If you upgrade a weapon for better stats, the weapon experience holds so you don't start off again for that weapon.
So when you get some high damage ice skates, the previous experience gets built upon.
Ranked War weapons gain experience as if it was a normal weapon.
The Gold AK47 is separate though to a standard AK47 and experience on the latter does not count for the GAK experience.
You can see your weapon experience by clicking on one in your item list.
There are also 3rd party apps such as YATA and TornStats where you can see your progressing weapon experience.
This degree is helpful to get early so that you start accruing W.E. as soon as completed.

Edit: You can also get W.E. with damaging temps like HEGs, trout and ninja stars.

And in case you’re wondering what it looks like when you check a weapon’s EXP, here are three examples:

1. Bo Staff (0% EXP); I haven’t used this weapon at all since I completed the Bachelor of Military Arts and Science degree.

2. Jackhammer (58%); I’m in the middle of maxing out the EXP on this weapon. It is currently the “Primary Weapon” I am using during attacks.

3. ArmaLite M-15A4 (100%); I have already maxed out the EXP on this weapon.

Weapon exp is bound to the named weapon if you get exp at armallite all other armallites you buy or get will be same exp you only basicly you became experianced with that weapons mechanic you get better you can buy stronger armallite and your exp will be same with the one you used and get exp before.
