Torn Gears!

Before we begin working on the first episode it will be beneficial for you to learn how to post pictures on the forums.

How to do it
Find a picture of a vehicle relevant to the episode.
Open the image in a tab or use copy image location.
Copy the link of the picture.
Click the picture icon on the text box below and paste the link into that input field.
There's other ways probably but I'm a producer / director not a IT teacher so if you can't figure it out you won't get paid. and sometimes you have to delete the https bit at the beginning to get the add image button to work.


Now the show ... oi you Don't go walking off into a bloody field! The input field is the little text box that comes up when you press the picture icon... This is what happens when you choose to do a car show instead of shaving sheep show I bet that guy is from Cornwall.

Now the show has in each episode something for you to do. In The Wall of Cool post you can see previous results sometimes these will be contested and there will be opportunity to move them about a bit.

Now for the First Episode

We need a car from the before the 1950s and state which category you would put it in and why.

This is a cool car but putting it into Sub Zero is very risky. I could put it in cool for its cheeky coca cola style but entering it for Sub Zero could end up being Nigel's instead.

This vehicle is currently CONTESTED.

A car for the future!
In the 1930s!

It is something that happens when art deco says let's go further let's make not just the promise of the future in design but let's make you feel like....

The Dymaxion would not look out of place on The Jetsons or Lost in Space shows.
But unfortunately that is the only places where it belongs.

A three wheeler with rear wheel drive and a sleek design for speed and fuel efficiency you could be mistaken in thinking this is the direction for all vehicles...just not this one.
At high speed it was unstable the industry did not know enough of the physics of turbulence and wind and go fast enough it will take off just not in the futuristic way it was intended too.

The developer said it was not meant to be a commercial success ( with only three being built excluding replicas ) but a vision of what cars should become.

I want to like this I really do just for the passion and the vision for the future by its creator Buckminster Fuller.
I feel it would be a disservice sending this dangerous none road worthy car to Nigel. But I cannot put it in cool or sub zero either.

The Dymaxion is contested!

We have until Monday to put these vehicles on the wall of cool.
Until then you have the freedom and citizenry obligation to say what category to put them in.
If you have a vehicle from before the 1950s ( I'll ignore the Chevrolet being from the 1950s there ) post it up with the category you'd like to see it in and give a reason why that category. If you want you could even write a review for it.

This Sunday will be the cutoff for this episode so if you want to review a car from before the 1950s you have time.
Prizes from GTA crimes will be given out too.

I'm going to let the Chevrolet el Camino into the Sub Zero section.

I can just imagine a Patrick Swayze type pulling up in that with his buddies in Grease style vehicles being envious at the originality and the practicality of the vehicle.

It's most definitely not average

Now for Episode Two

Jumping forward to the 1980s.
You can choose to post a family car, a racing car or a classy car.
You get to nominate it for a category on the wall of cool. Give at least a few sentences or you can give a full review if you'd like.
Remember to post a picture and the vehicle must be from the 1980s.

I'd like to submit the Volvo 240 for sub zero

because it does everything asked for in the show and fulfills all categories.

its a classic, nobody looks at a 240 and mistakes it for anything else on the road

it's a racing car, no seriously it was a V8 turbo manual gearbox AWD touring car MONSTER qnd the later years are the REASON tou cannot race an Estate in WTC or WRC and it got BANNED from WRC and TC because it was too fas, the stock version capable of a 9s 0-60 and 160bhp in 1982

It's a camper can that can sleep a small army

it's a family car, stuff it with 3 kids, their friends, the dog and both oarents and still have space to move a body to the murder pit.

its a removals van and world traveller.

hell it's even an armoured vehicle capable of surviving Swedish military use and not for nothing has the nickname of a TANK in terms of reliability and in in crash resistance even without armour plating.

And to top it off there is a kit that's easily available to put a chevy v8 into one and deag freak has ine that will do a 6s quarter mile and do it all with leather seats, cup holders, air con and incredible suspension.


yes it's ugly, yes it isn't conventionally cool but... despite that it is in every category ALWAYS an amazing choice means... it is the car for the woman or man who has nothing to prove so it effortlessly passes the Kristen Scott Thomas test soo it has to be Sub Zero.

The 1983 Volvo station wagon. My 1st car. A rear wheel driven slab. This thing is an absolute gem. All the handling and control of a school bus but none of the power. This car's high-beams are activated through a little pedal on the floor. That is curious. If you get this fine machine up to highway speeds you will need a lot of room to stop. Dont press those pre-a.b.s. brakes too hard though. These brakes are guaranteed to lock right up allowing you to slide and carrean to your hearts content.
By all accounts this is not a cool car. Perhaps Nigel has a soft spot for the Pride of Sweden.

Liam I have to agree the Volvo station wagon is a gem.

There are many memories of jumping into the back of that car with the dogs. It had a rear facing seat in the boot and it was great. I didn't have to listen to the old people in front of the car, I could play with the dogs and to top it off I could make faces and gestures at the car behind us.

Plus it could crumple other cars and fences with ease which says something about the old people driving at front.

It's not a cool car and Nigel has already cleared a space in the garage for it.

DimiScarlet I agree with what your saying but a Sub Zero it is not.

Now here is the difficulty as editor of Torn Gears I have two great reviews of the Volvo 240 and now who should win?

I was hoping I could convince you with the racing pedigree and the passion but was worth a shot thanks man.

This has to be one of my favorite car models of all time and not only is it mine but also this is the favorite of people all over the world. I am talking about the Jaguar E-type . With its sexy lines and v12 engine it is top dog of all British cars in my mind!

Dodge Ram 1500

This is a real good American Working Man's Vehicle.
It's a workhorse and designed with that in mind.
If you want a nice leisure type of vehicle and live in Little Italy then this is not for you.
But
If your the type of guy everyone calls Duke then it is your kind of veehaircle!

My model came with a built in CB radio so while driving between farmer markets and construction yards I get to hear about :
The weather ( which I know already as I'm driving in it ) Steakhouses ( while driving this I feel there just are not enough Steakhouses in the world ) .
The local cathouses ( which more I hear of them the less I think they are a refuge for lost cats ).

This 1991 model had a new tow bar that went from the 3000 pound limit to a more Duke like 5000 pound limit.
The Rams came with bigger grille with bigger bars and Dodge proudly stamped on it.
But they lost the hood ornament.

It's a V6 around 125 hp but this can be upgraded ( I think ) to a V8 I'm not going to try it because it's not mine and the guy I borrowed it from looks like he doesn't like undersized people with British accents at the best of times.

I'd recommend getting one of these just so you can feel like a real American driving a truck made in Mexico.

There was a problem with steering wheel and straight from the site :

Yes the E Type
It's 0 - 60 mph in 7 seconds
Top speed of 150 mph
stylish look designed back mid last century
I can think of no other place to put it than the cool wall.

I know some out there would say the sub zero but I think this model coming up might be better for it...

The D Type!
The E Type was based off the racing car D Type.
And the D Type shared some of itself with the C Type another mouth watering car.

But today we will put the D Type on Sub Zero for its design, it's performance and the fact in 2016 one was auctioned off at $21,780,000 !

Now the Dodge Ram 150
There's nothing wrong with it if you ignore the safety bits.
It's a fine truck and it would be a disservice to itself of we put it on the cool section.
It would not belong with Nigel.
It does belong with the many fine American drivers and will be one day considered classic Americana because of its average outlook on life.
To the Average section it goes.

My new Toyota Mirai. A rear wheel driven Electric-Hydrogen fueled engine. What a smooth ride. It handles remarkably even on 20" murder wheels. This car is rather quiet as well. Absolutely smashing, a very very civilized very agreeable car.

Like the poet said; Bombs and gestures pushed aside like an old combine harvester. The world is changing and that change is fascinating. I am excited to be a part of it. I know this will upset some of those petrol heads out there but this is the future and we must embrace it.

Hydrogen fueled engines have been safe ever since vauxhall did it in the 90's. The only issue with the hydrogen cars is where to fill up as there are not many hydrogen fueling stations across the country.

At 65k pounds the Miri by Toyota is a sound investment both for the driver and for the earth.
