The Struggle

Does anyone else know the struggle of trying to find a book online that you read as a child but cannot remember the name of, or even what the cover looked like?

I recently was having trouble and I ended up just going to Goodreads and scrolling through all the books in the genre until I recognized the cover. Luckily for me it was near the top but it might not be next time.

Does anyone have any tips for tracking down childhood books online?

Ask people. Describe the plot and characters that you remember. Someone else will have read it and will have the title or the author for you.

The folks at Metafilter are really good at this.

Yes! There's actually a group in goodreads where people will find it for you. They are like old book detectives, doing it presumably just out of general good will.

You could also try librarything.com, they're a little less consumer-driven than Goodreads and there's a good community there.
