With the introduction of RW weapons I've moved my opinion to Dex. A lot of weapons increase damage, which is hurting the Def strategy. It's almost more important to just not get hit at all by those weapons.

Doesn't matter which one's more important; you need to bring both two up to the Happy Jump cap (which is ~400K) and then to the regular training ceiling level (which is ~50M) first before you could even decide on one to focus on. My opinion, anyway.

And it's also what you prefer. Both have solid builds. And you never know what the future may bring. Even if dex now seems to have a slight edge in terms of RW weapons, there are probably still coming a lot of updates which can shake things up.

Choose what you think suits you best, and stick to it. Besides, this guide from the player Mug is a nice read on the topixlc. Get to the paragraph 'training'. It's worth it. I made my choice based on it. Link: https://www.torn.com/forums.php#/p=threads&f=61&t=16252083&b=0&a=0

Good luck!

That is the stats soft cap where exponential growth ends from regular training. You should have stopped happy jumping WAY before then :)

When I first started everyone told me DEF was the way to go.. But personally I felt that DEX provided more benefits in general, since it impacted both stealth and the prevention of being hit. Now that rank weapons are flooding out, I am glad I chose DEX. Get into a good pub, get a nice RW melee weapon, and have fun.

With Ephi and a good rw weapon a def whore can be easily counter; so i say go for dex with flashlight, edu course and tyro like a bitch. They can't debuff u if they cannot hurt u

Each one has its pros and cons imo.
DISCLAIMER: I may be forgetting some and may get some wrong. Am no expert.

For DEF
  • No temps that reduce DEF
  • Mitigation rate is lower than dodge rate (14:1 DEF/STR for full mitigation vs 64:1 DEX/SPD)
  • Most RW armor bonuses are geared towards this
  • Less pasive bonuses overall
  • Booster is worse (+300% vs +500%) and costs double (1.3m vs 600k) but heals for 25% instead
For DEX
  • More passive bonuses
  • Useful for stealthing attacks and revealing stealth attacks
  • Booster is cheaper and has a higher effect
  • SPD booster is even cheaper, counters this easily
  • Higher rate for hit immunity = Harder to be immune to damage
  • Very fragile if only building up DEX
  • Multiple temps reduce it (mace, tear gas, concussion nades)
  • Need expensive gear to block said temps (motorcycle, delta, eod...)
  • Especially vulnerable to group attacks where stacking tear gas + distraction exposes you
All in all, DEX has a lot more drawbacks than DEF. It's better for aggressive builds or muggers imho.
If I had to say, either going balanced or full DEF is the better option. DEX builds are viable but fall short against balanced builds and group attacks)

Do note, though, that I myself am a DEX build, even after saying all that, so I'm biased against it having seen its counters first-hand.

You can always train your dump stat.
In fact the sopner you drop one the sooner you can get into hanks and the faster you'll train.

Yes fights will be harder overall buy your total will blow past anyone training all four.
JackKelly [2271177]
As your stats grow, fights will become harder, no matter how you train. You'll just be facing stronger opponents.

Fatbears is referring to hanks ratio, which uses 2 special gyms to train 3 stats. This allows your total stats to skyrocket, while essentially leaving behind one stat. Which, in turn, makes you weaker against opponents with the same total stats as you, but allows you to gain and pass people that are training all 4 stats.
Fatbears [2197270]
As JackKelly mentioned^ Hanks

Because I'm offering the fastest way to grow you're Total, you're going to have to find what works for you. You're going to "Whore" one stat, either def or dex. That will mean you'll either you'll get hit *less*, but when you do you'll get rocked. Or you'll always take hits but you'll feel them less.

It's a solid choice and a viable training strategy but you have to accept some fights will be much harder to take then being "balanced".
There are advantages and disadvantages to all training strategies:
Balanced isn't going to win you every fight But you'll have an easier time with the average fight. This is the slowest route, imo it's what SSL people should do.
Def primary isn't going to win you every fight and now is arguably a lot weaker with all the RW weapons introduced and their dropping price, you will get more stalemates overall with this route. Be harder to take of walls, take more group attacks.
Dex is something. I'm starting to dex whore. It's great watching people miss and using a boster makes defends/escapes come a lot faster then anything else I've tried. and there are two RW bonuses that are insanely powerful against Dex. Dex is the more expensive route regarding war equipment in my opinion currently.

Basically you're always going to be weaker then someone and there will always be a paper to your rock, but the faster you get those stats up to the point where you can compete, Training three stats over 4 will allow you to get to SE territory faster and give you more leeway as to what you're doing, Once you're taking SE's then you can start training your drop stat up making you a better rounded player overall.

Edit: Higher your stats are the more people you'll be able to beat hands down. So comparing 110m a month in Georges vs 115-120m a month using specialty gyms. The person in the specialty gyms will have more targets available to them faster, will gain in the HoF faster and will take down people who have a worse training regiment then they do.
You'll just have to be a bit more choosy about who you're attacking, what temp/booster you're going to be bringing into a fight.
I'm currently sitting ~~6000 in HoF, I can beat people with +50% more stats then I have because I because I get hit a lot less. Crits are brutal and that's the trade off.

If had some advice for myself two years ago I'd have dropped Def a LOT longer ago and just raised three gotten into the specialty gyms faster and been already in SE range for my main stat.

Being MORE balanced, but still leaning towards leading with Dex is more important now than ever.

Def used to be the Meta as "more dmg resisted = better chance of winning the fight".

But with RW weapons and all the bonuses that we're seeing, taking ANY dmg will mean that the wepon used on you, has a chance to proc.

Whereas, with Dex, if they miss...well they miss and no chance to proc.

Let's take 2 examples of Def vs Dex.

Example 1: 500m Speed vs 1B Dex:
  • Around 33% hit chance (so 66% will be misses)
  • This means significantly less proc chances of anyone's RW special on you.
  • Chuck in a flash light on your main = -3 to -5 accuracy on the person attacking you = even less chance to hit.
  • If you use a Needle - you now got 6b effective Dex, and around 7% hit chance.
Example 2: 500m Str Vs 1B Def:
  • 40% of dmg is mitigated
  • Assuming little to zero Dex, you're going to be hit pretty much every time, and thus weapons have a chance to proc on each hit.
  • No weapon mods reduce dmg received so...
  • If you use a needle, you now get more dmg mitigation, but still have proc chance on every hit...
Now I've ignored RW armour, and other stuff.. but I think it gets even better for Dex with the Delta gear and strip club:
  • 50% reduction on ALL negative status effects - so even when they do proc on you, ANY effect is reduced by 50%, GAK demo, smoke speed or any other effect is HALVED!
  • Your Dex cannot be reasonably touched by any Temp, they need to burn a speed needle OR use a stupid expensive concussion grenade, which will be reduced by HALF due to your armour, and that's only for 15 seconds.
  • If you join a Strip club, again it's even better for Dex as Tyro gets a 50% boost on effect and duration, while 10* Passive has a huge 25% dodge on melee attacks, again reducing the time you can even get proc'd on.
