he insinuated that ed's a pedo. there wasn't a quote but rather prox asking the question (basically "is she above 18")

i like prox but forbidding people from calling folks pedo is one of the better anti-flaming rules imho - just reduces discourse to absolute savagery if that's allowed to fly

late edit: per clarification from prox, i should mention that while it wasn't a "quote", prox WAS refering to a post from ed (that was then edited) that referred to britain's age of consent laws (being 16+). and while i find that sort of banter extremely creepy and abhorent, i stand by my own pointless ruling that prox's comment took that beyond what it was, directly into implying (i consider "questions" to be statements, politically) that ed was was going after under 18 year olds, which notably ed's comment itself had already denied; referencing AoC law, despite being creepy and objectively gross, is not the wrongdoing that was implied by prox's question.

like censoring "f**k", i fully agree with a hardline approach to this sort of social violation, regardless of "context", as to do otherwise opens up the threat of "gaming" staff on this. and they do not want that. all must be equal before the law

well, if anyone cares about the 3 forum ban, they are a bit weird.

but i think a majority of people are worried that further of such behavior would eventually lead to a perma ban

Meh it depends on the ban reason. If someone gets banned for being in a gray area then they should care about their ban reason so they don't accidentally repeat the same behavior and then cop a longer ban.

In this case it was well over an established boundary. You can disagree with the rule, but it's had enough precedent by now that no one should be surprised.

Everyone makes mistakes. Even committee shouldn't be held to a one strike system, otherwise you'll lose all involvement from them because they'll be scared to mess up one time.

Was what Prox said stupid? Yes. Should he have gotten his forum ban? Yes. But just by sheer volume of his posts, his "stupid" posts are probably a lesser amount than most people on Torn. If he proves to not learn his lesson then yeah strip him of his position, but people are allowed to make mistakes as long as they learn from it.
