So we signed up for a RW (the third time in a while) and even though we put "Weekday" war we start at 10pm on a Friday night. At what point is this a weekday war and not a weekend war!!!

Surely, if the Torn staff want us to war more, start them at Wednesday midday for a weekday war and a Saturday midday for weekend war.

Wednesday midday wouldn't give you time to stack after Tuesday 12:00 matchmaking though, especially for those members who are already asleep at 12:00 TCT and won't learn about the war until 20:00 or so. Would hardly give you time to do spies or other preparation.

I don't love Friday night wars myself (or Thursday afternoon) and since that's what weekdays means for RWs, we put weekends when we enlist. (Still got a Friday this week though lol).

It doesn't depend on your choice either.

If your opponent has chosen opposite to you then the system tries to find a random time based off activity

(And more often than not its a weekday as I suspect it just tries to find the earliest "good" time possible when at random)

Well if you want Saturday wars, and small factions often take 2-3 days for those to finish, you can't match much earlier than Tuesday if you want people to be able to war two weeks in a row.

I'd argue that if the other faction voted for a weekday war and you voted for a weekend war, 10pm on a Friday is a fair compromise from the system.

And as Qfiffle says above, expect weekday matchups for a faction of your size due to it being in the farming leagues.

Well, if there was a mechanic other than wait for ages, then med out and smash the attack button, it wouldn't be as much of an issue.

As it is, there's f**k all to do in wars but that. Maybe some armory managemenet, some emailing to make sure you take care of offliners and get stacks done, maybe a revive contract, but that's pretty much it.

Most real-world competitions are won or lost based on the prep work you do. There's more time and effort put in before the competition than at the actual competition. I don't know what form that would take in Torn, but it seems like there could be a ton more war prep activities that would help the faction and not require everyone to be active during a work day.

It would require a very deep rethink of wars, but I'd love to see a whole lot more meta-gaming to wars than we have currently. Even locking armory deposits 24 hrs before the war would be a decent step forward, in my eyes. Then you'd absolutely need to have someone in charge of and on top of armory management. No rushing out to buy needles and smokes half-way through a war. So if you can't make a 9am Thursday war, you can at least say, "Hey, I can't make the war, but I'll take care of armory management the next couple of nights.", and that would be a very valuable service that everyone would appreciate.

A bit more need for strategies and preparation in wars would be pretty great in my eyes. Yes, you need active people with good BS hitting during, but it would be fantastic for there to be a lot for everyone else to do both before and during.

It's odd you say that because I would 100% say that for at least 3-4 people in our council each time, our wars take us more time in preparation than in the actual warring. By the time the war starts, it's kind of a relief to sit back and let it happen, after spending most Torn-time between Tuesday night and the time of the war on war planning.

That's only when we get a really tough war, obviously. For easy ones, there's much less to do.

And in a tough match up there's no way you can just go out to buy more stuff for the armoury in the middle, lmao. If you didn't sort it out in advance, you aren't going to have time to spend on it during the war, and aren't likely to be able to get out of hospital to buy stuff or even to pull money from the vault to send to someone to do it for you. Little details like making sure the armoury has everything you are going to need (and ensuring everyone has borrowed the optimal temps and RW weapons in advance) can give you the tiny edge against an opposition who is more disorganised on those things. Armory management is pretty much a full time role for at least one council member, plus help from another couple usually.

And that's only one of a long list of tasks you need to do in advance. We have a RWs checklist with 41 tasks that need to happen before most wars, and many of them take a couple of hours to do.

Maybe you've mostly had wars you guys can win without doing so much prep? Idk. Or maybe you aren't aware of everything your leadership is doing behind the scenes before a war.

i question either how much involvement you have in RW planning for ME, or how rudimentary your faction's playstyle must be.

there are plenty of tactics (one which ME used against 39thX to great success)

ranked wars are nowhere near as straightforward as you make them out to be.

that being said...

f**k weekday wars
Kalisa [2014200]
Hilarious how you both are stuck in your own little worlds. Two opposed comments from leaders, because you two have either forgotten what the average player experiences or you don't know.

It only takes a handful of people to organize a war. How about something for the other 95 members of the faction to do?

For most of a faction, there's f**k all to do to prep for a war except stack. And during war there's f**k all to do but turtle a lot, then pop and hit.

There needs to be more for everyone to do before and during wars to make them interesting. There could be a ton more to wars than we have now, and that would drive strategy and make them vastly more interesting. If we could interrupt each other's war prep, or if it took everyone in the faction to prep for war, that would make it interesting.
