For hacking crimes do the viruses get consumed or are they permanent?

Never used any viruses, but I think they are consumble because you have to create viruses or buy them. Dont take my answer as definite but thats what I think.

edit: and don't bother with anything other than Stealth Virus, this is the only safe one to do. at your level i suggest to DON'T do virus crimes at all if you want to make progress in crime experience.

Stealth virus crime is good to do during wars or chains as it's failure doesn't have a jail or hospital consequence.
actually i'd recommend the 2 and 3 nerve crimes, or even 4 (jackets).
the 9 nerve ones have a lot of blues even at max success rate and for OP it's a big waste of nerve.

Why would that be a waste? I about the same lvl and have about 99% succes with virus crimes. Is it because we are out of nerve to fast with that crime?
you can't be 99%, don't remember what's the maximum but i think it's around 85% (or maybe lower).
so with that probability you'll wast 9 nerve 15% of the time, more than that for a low CE player.
i basically skipped 9 nerve crimes completely before reaching arson level and after that i recommend it only if you want to get the computer crimes merits and don't want to go through the pain of hacking.

depending on your NNB it could make more sense to start with arsons directly.

The consensus , per some.guide and comments I've seen, seems to be just do jackets and arson to build up nerve and get high nerve bar to participate in PA.
Get cash monies first and foremost and then later go back and do the crime merits.
