60nnb at 389 days old, 12,027 total offenses

After an unsure first couple months in Torn where I thought I’d only do crimes for merits, I changed my mind and started going after the goal of achieving 60nnb. I took the plunge on my first nerve refill in April 2022, and 294 refills later (only skipping when on faction war perks), I’ve made it, with only 12,027 offenses committed, and at only 389 days old.

This isn’t really a story about how I got in a 10* pub early and started drinking 5 nerve alcohol out of sheer determination to be the fastest ever. In fact, I was only in a pub and using premium booze for about a month, and I wasn’t even in a faction with +50% voracity for a significant portion of this journey. Rather, the only thing I really did myself was consistently drink beer with my booster cooldown, use nerve refills and hammer the warehouse arson and kidnap woman crimes as much as possible. Here’s the list of crimes I’ve completed and the effective arsons gained as described by torn.report

“But wait!” you might ask. “Doesn’t it take about 15,000 CE to get to 60nnb? You haven’t even done that many crimes!” Yes, yes it does and no, no I haven’t. Here’s where it really happened. At 55nnb and less than one year old:

5. With a stationary target Fastslough steadies the rifle, and lines the crosshair up with the Senator’s head.
6. BANG! One shot is fired, the bullet pierces the front window and enters the Senator’s head. His body slumps lifelessly.

Our intrepid CE manager at Carbon X, jefersonakl (aka Akenomics) dreamed up a plan to start running what amounted to Political Assassinations with the CE equivalent of four PA “4ths” instead of Plane Hijackings at the end of December. It just so happened that he couldn’t quite finish one more team and so he threw me in. Now, after 6 PA attempts I have been in *3* successful PAs, which along with prior PH successes at Carbon X (which themselves started at 45nnb), saved me months of arson or kidnap grinding.

These PAs were not even done with some monster pre-nerf bust CE lead, but I’ll let jef speak to how he manages OCs on his own time. Incidentally, it appears clear that PA successes at 55nnb grant approximately 500 CE instead of 650. It’s also clear that PAs are still obscenely overpowered even after the CE gain nerf.

I think there must be people who have made it to 60nnb faster than me, because there was more than a little room for improvement in the way I went about it. I couldn’t find any achievement posts, but I’d be interested in hearing about anyone else who did it quicker!

Thanks again to jef without whom I wouldn’t have yet achieved this goal (or made this post), and a big shoutout to everyone in Carbon Rising and Carbon X! Now onward to properly earning myself a place in a PA.

I, too, cannot recall anyone doing it faster—I think I remember a player reaching 60 NNB in 404 days, but I cannot remember the name (~_~;) —so I’d be very interested to see if someone has!

Now that you’re at 60 NNB, are you going to work on some of the other crime merits, or are you just going to stick with arsons and kidnapping until you’re a solid fixture on a PA team? Whatever you decide to do, I have no doubt that you’re going to crush it, Fastslough!! (^o^)/

Thanks! I intentionally switched to kidnap woman after a while so I at least have the arson merits until 10k to work towards after 60nnb. After that I'll just do the slow grind up thefts using kidnaps. I'll probably be working solely on my CE for quite a while, with a plan to fill in all the other crimes once I'm, as you say, a solid fixture on a PA team.

This is impressive - congrats my friend! I'm sitting here just under 2 years on the verge of 60nnb and feeling pretty good about the time it took. Used to feel like a pipe dream but I've got 15.35k EA and know its about to happen. Just got on a PA team which I feel like is an accomplishment for most. You did it lightning fast!

I wanted to say kudos,
this is an excellent achievement and not one easily done! You had to work hard and with focus right from the start!
Well done to you for doing that work, and what fun that your faction OC teams took a chance, I think it's great when factions try and break molds and test new theories out; especially with things like PA teams etc.

I had the joy of being in a great pub and it still took me a lot longer than you to get to 60, that grind is real! Well done :)
