idk lots to discuss I guess, finally got real intel on casualties in Ukraine, more proof of the US spying on allies (again), and nato troops confirmed in Ukraine. stuff.

"As of now, senior defense officials have little idea who may have been behind the leak. Some have speculated in recent days that it could have been a Pentagon official’s child wanting to show off to his friends on Discord, a social media and gaming platform where the documents first appeared earlier this year."

can't decide whether it would be more pathetic and/or hilarious if this were actually what happened or if this were just the first excuse they could think up off the top of their heads

"no, sir, i swear i didn't print those documents out on my home computer at the request of that russian onlyfans model. i, uh, it was my son? he must have, uh, snuck in behind me at work? and, uh, fished them out of the trash while he was playing call of duty?"

Well the Ukrainians were right not to share certain intel with the U.S. and they were proven correct.

Ukraine is running out of ammo, unless the West continues to push the war funds to them.

Ukraine is f**ked if this is true.

The U.S. always spy on everyone (just like most countries). That part is old news.

what it's suppose to mean is NO ONE is surprised that America spies on its own allies.... or that this stuff leaks every so often.

Most likely because most people would rather have more transparency in the government, and see leaks as a good thing, and that the leaked info itself isn't really all that damning.

Basically "This country of 40-some million people are having trouble fighting a country more than 3x it's size and population, and we're trying to get countries to send aid without sending any of our own" which is common knowledge already, and that we have intelligence on other countries, which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

It's very telling when an article is linked that pretty much condemns Discord and Twitter for not censoring it, but never actually mentions the contents of the leak itself. "Musk is bad" is the major takeaway that they try to push.

the whole thing feels off to me.

honestly, i think it's a fake leak, filled with half-truths, with the hope of disrupting russia's invasion efforts. specifically, i think they're purposefully deeply under-reporting ukrainian assets, in anticipation for the expected spring offensive

there seems to be too much of a willingness by the american officials to over-explain the leaks, which i think is what has me suspicious. they were pretty f**kin quiet when the snowden leaks happened, this response seems very different. just doesn't smell right

I mean its honestly a possability,

Altho SK and such are not happy with America for spying on them.... but at the same time SK might be in on it and it might just be "damning" info that looks bad on the Americans to sell the actual "changed" info as real.

But honestly i doubt we will ever really know the truth.

As far as I’m aware from the news it wasn’t just left about.

The guy read top secret briefing documents and then transcribed them when he got home to re create them.
Johnox [66901]
well i didnt mean like legit laying around XD was more lax security like why was this guy able to see these documents in the first place are they not compartmentalised. he had documents on all different subjects im not sure how it was not detected that he was looking at all these im sure he was not working on all of them even though he had clearance....also how was he spreading them on discord for MONTHS before they found out... feels like something is missing.

I can’t speak to top secret, but I have some knowledge of classified materials, and I can see how he would have access to an eclectic mix of information. The systems in place are mostly to stop you removing the information, there’s no way to stop you removing the info in your head.

The vetting process is supposed to weed out the sort of idiot that shares classified info on discord to win and argument, so I’d say the failure here is in the vetting process rather then the material storage.
