· 12 likes · Yes. I’m not 100% on the details, but Bogie/Staff will do some checks and get confirmation from the player’s family/friends. Then they manually apply it. I think It’s a pretty nice gesture from Torn Staff to commemorate players like that.
Moved to Q&A. As others have said, yes they have passed in real life. If you would like someones profile memorialized, you can chat bogie and he will guide you through the process. You will need to provide proof of death, something like an online obituary, and he will do verification checks to match the information provided with the account.
Sometimes when it's a death that was expected, such as from cancer or another long-term terminal illness, the person might make plans in the case of their passing for a family member to contact staff, facilitated by Torn faction-mates or friends. Otherwise, I guess it depends on whether they have Torn friends with a way of contacting irl close ones, or family that knew that they played Torn enough to try to log in and inform others. You'll see in the link posted in this thread, a lot of the testimonials mention that the deceased players held Torn in high regard, so their family knew to inform people here of their passing. Unfortunately I imagine many players do not have this, and have thus not been recognised as 'Fallen'
If the player that passed away has family or friends playing Torn, the news (and evidence) will reach staff in most cases.
That said, not everyone will get that status. If a lone wolf stops logging in, it's hard to know whether or not they are still alive. And then we the one person that didn't want memorialized status. Imaginarytruths who up to this day is fighting players looking for an easy way to level up.
