The fact that about 6 pages of this thread had to be completely deleted for sheer vileness speaks volumes to why we still need to have awareness months for causes like this.

Because the 'calls for violence' against gay or trans people are insidious. These are people who are attacked IRL just for existing. I am not necessarily encouraging violence. But if you see someone being homophobic or transphobic, call them out. Intervene. Everyone gets heated in online arguments- that's why I don't generally participate. But if you think there is more violence towards homophobes than homosexuals, you are deluded. There are entire spaces (states, here in the U.S. & entire countries around the world) where trans people can not safely *exist*. It's horrible. Until all humans have equal rights and options, it is important for allies and members of the LGBTQ+ community to continue fighting, advocating, and putting in actual work to help facilitate change. Not everyone can organize a movement - but even by supporting a trans artist with a small purchase, or speaking up against hatred in an online game - the validation and representation you can offer DOES make a difference.

Also, why is June Pride Month? Too lazy to look it up myself and actually would like to hear from the community.
I personally think it should be a different month and move Black History from February to June to coincide with Juneteenth. But… that is a discussion for a different time.
It's celebrated in June to honour the Stonewall riots in 1969, because of this it's very unlikely it will ever be moved to another month. But pride flags also now incorporate the colours black and brown to represent people of colour.
Oops I noticed Raelyn had posted after I posted mine lol but it's no problem, I think people here would much rather people genuinely ask questions with no malicious or trolling intent behind it as Pride is also a time for learning as well :)

It is commonly said that Woodson selected February to encompass the birthdays of two great Americans who played a prominent role in shaping black history, namely Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, whose birthdays are the 12th and the 14th, respectively."
