I received 30m from this "Foundation", or whatever we're calling it now, at less than a month old. And i honestly hate that I'm associated with this shit-show now. So who do i return the money to?
There is no existing "foundation" anymore since GenShinigami folded it. Pass it forward and help someone you think needs a little extra <3

Hello Ero, glad to see that things have stabilized enough for you to be more active in Torn. I was really excited when you first reached out to me again, and started a conversation about possibly restarting the foundation. I loved getting to work with many of the people, if only briefly, that were involved in it. Being able to interact with so many passionate people who wanted to help new players, yourself included, was a breath of fresh air in a game that can be as cynical as Torn.
It is a little upsetting that you chose to apply an arbitrary deadline of 12 hours, and threaten that if I don’t provide a billion dollars to Darqfate [2748079] you would start this smear campaign. Especially without speaking to me further, after I messaged you to explain why that deadline was not something I would be accommodating. (Though I’ll confess, I’m not sure which of the “simplest questions” it was I had been asked, but hadn’t answered?)
Admittedly, the timing of this entire encounter is a bit surprising, given that after 2 months of silence, Jano [2755043] reached out to me on Discord and we had a fairly extended conversation, where I was berated and criticized by him for my handling of the money…. Almost six weeks after the foundation had effectively been closed, and while he was (to the best of my knowledge?) not playing Torn anymore. And then you contacted me the day after this exchange.
Given your talking points to me, I have to assume that you spoke to Jano. And I’m sure you had good intentions. But Jano was not the one who had to make decisions anymore. Maybe he wants to try and run the show from behind the bars of Fed. Technically I don’t think there’s any rules against that, though it’d be convoluted to say the least. But you are seemingly parroting his talking points, so I have to assume you’ve taken everything he has said as gospel.
I was given the Foundation by Jano after he was Fedded, not because I asked for it. While I was happy to help contribute to it, I had not signed up to be the person solely responsible for running it. I loved the spirit of its goals, and the chance that I might be able to help some new players. In fact, I have two different companies currently that I pay a salary to the directors, specifically meant to be able to help lower-stat players get rolling. The employees, regardless of their working stats, also get a small salary of 100k a day. (And before someone complains, the directors are getting paid considerably more than that.)
In fact, one of the directors is a Grant recipient, who I’ve continued to work with. He expressed an interest in running a company. After I helped him understand why doing so without the Business Educations is generally ill-advised, and he said he was still interested, I offered to let him run one on my dime. A chance to try it out, see if it suited him, without any of the financial cost to him. The hope is that soon, I’ll be taking him out of that Director role, and giving him trains, to move him to a Hair Salon and help him speed run his educations.
I could go on and humble brag about other things I’ve done. But I’m really not trying to make this about me and show off or pat myself on the back. I just want to provide an very clear-cut example of what I mean when I said that I have tried to continue acting in the spirit of the Foundation. If you think I’ve “stolen” the money, I’m sorry. I have at no point been contacted by any donors about the Foundation since it was closed. If they had, I would have happily had a conversation with them, and see what they felt should be done. That seems to have been a major concern of Jano’s? That we were going to be chased down by donors and accused of mishandling their money?
I don’t really know how to end this. I’m not going to pretend that there is no way my decisions were wrong, or could be misconstrued. I’ve been around the forums enough to know that there are going to be folks who choose to believe the absolute worst of all of this, no matter what. I’m not here to win them over. But I would appreciate setting the record straight.
I have made good faith efforts to contact you and Darqfate to talk, and be available. I would have loved to have tried to restart a spiritual successor to the foundation, and continued to help new players in a more structured way. As I said in our conversation, I now have various resources which would allow me a lot more leeway in helping get these new players started. But instead, my feelings towards working with you on such a goal are hurt and wounded by this attack on me.
Do what you will, I’ll continue doing my best to be a good person, and help those who I can find that deserve it.

Tl;dr: I did it yes, but mostly because I was just handed all this without being asked and had no idea what to do as it was just me. I used the money in ways I saw fit to help out new players, sorry if they disagree with how it was done, maybe don't just leave me on my own next time.

This is as reasonable a response as I think the original donors and board can expect. When I was accepted as a grant recipient, I had no idea what it would provide me with. Obviously I was hoping to be given lots of money, but that didn’t happen. What DID happen was Gen offered me a great job, and spent a SIGNIFICANT amount of time to help me understand a lot of the nuance in this game.
I’ll say again, I’ve been friends and workers with GenShinigami since I was accepted into the Foundation and I, personally, have been more successful as a player because of it. Given what I know of him, I think the faction he set up likely is generous to its players in terms of both knowledge and rewards, and I would absolutely join it had I not had other commitments in that area.
I do understand the hurt and frustration from the donors and board, but Gen is just one person who had the Foundation dumped on him and him alone, at a point when the Foundation wasn’t really anything more than a name and a bunch of money.
Final thought: I have made a good number of friends and learned a LOT about Torn specifically due to Gen after he took over the foundation. He’s not a con artist or a sleaze, but just a single human. I think it’s also important to remember that running a faction isn’t cheap OR easy. I’d love to hear from those in his faction but I genuinely believe he’s been generous and helpful as much as he can.

I might be biased seeing as Gen is my referral and all but seems like a perfectly reasonable course given the landscape.

Gen has repeatedly invited me to join his faction and company endeavors and I always decline, not because I don't have the balls to tell him I can't breathe around him because he never showers, but because that is just too much dedication to a game for my taste. But good on him for it -- it's folks like Gen who stand out in the community and keep the game interesting.
Frankly, I scoffed at this whole fund as soon as I read the words "board members" like who do you people think you are, the HOA? But I also recognized this was exactly the kind of thing Gen loves to get involved with and see work out. Shame it didn't, but I don't see a villain here. I know Gen's a smooth talking little shit but I don't believe he would act in such bad faith as he is being made out to be here.

He didn’t name it, and as soon as he inherited it, it looked like he essentially endeavored to stop using the name. There were no ill intentions at ANY point, but before he had the time to reorganize and rename, everyone else involved in the project dropped out. In fact, there was a request for new name ideas shortly after he inherited it. He clearly didn’t want to continue using a name of someone he didn’t know, and whose wishes he couldn’t elucidate.

You have one side threatening to go public over 1b from a stunt that went oh so well last time as if people in Torn of all places would forget and pick up pitchforks.
And then the other side defending the "scam" by trying to explain the way they earned a Sainthood using money donated by random people and not used how it was supposed to be used.
And now a shadowy third side of banned player(s) trying to threaten some one in a game that they physically can't play because they broke the rules and had their Torn City visitor's pass revoked.
Meanwhile, all 3 meet in the middle by ignoring the simple argument everyone has, that this entire thing is f**king scummy and everyone knew this was coming months ago and warned them about.
