Problem, yes. Big problem, no. We already have 2 US functions after them, with a total of over 3 billion in funds to fight it. Which is a little over 7 million per kid. The average human life is worth about 7 million.

Still not sure what democrats have anything to do about this.

Child Sex trafficking has become a moral panic to create moral authority amongst QAnon conspiracy theorists and other right wingers who need to create a stark dividing line to show they are the good and moral people and their enemies are irredeemably evil. It's the same kind of thing you saw in the Satanic Panic of the 80's and 90's where a lot of people talked about there being lots of satanic cults stealing babies and drinking their blood. You make your chosen enemy so monstrous that by being anti-those people your own righteousness is confirmed. The satanic panic ended up being based on rumors and lies. The current moral panic is based on trying to take a complicated worldwide issue and both lying about its causes, frequency, and tenable solutions.

When today’s activists talk about the problem of trafficking, knowing exactly what they’re referring to can be difficult. They cite statistics that actually offer global estimates of all forms of labor trafficking. Or they mention outdated and hard-to-parse figures about the number of children who go “missing” in the United States every year—most of whom are never in any immediate danger—and then start talking about children who are abducted by strangers and sold into sex slavery.

The organization that the movie Sound of Freedom is based on is an excellent example of this. They often conducted "sting operations" which were similar to drug buy and busts: posed as tourists who wanted sex and ask local criminal gang members to provide kids, then arrest the gang members once money had changed hands. Some of the children were trafficked for the first time to meet the demand of the sting operation, and the kids weren't actually 'saved' just ended up being trafficked again later because it turns out there are complicated issues of poverty and exploitation that don't get fixed with arresting a couple street corner criminals.


A lot of people have discussed that the Sound of Freedom group and movie overplay the prevalence of children being kidnapped by shadowy figures and ignores the much more common event where teenagers who are already vulnerable in various ways are trafficked by people they know.


Details like that are inconvenient though to the true purpose, which is to be a hammer you can whack anyone at, accusing them of being pro trafficking and pedophiles if anyone stops to question if their claims or conclusions are actually true.

People are ignoring the fact that conservative lawyers and judges have been pushing to abolish the sex offender registry and many times those convicted of sex trafficking are not put in the registry.

The promotion of the film has been a misinformation campaign as well. Many of the opening tickets were bought out by the promoters to give away and no one wanted them. The theatres were empty yet it was a box office hit lol. People thought there was a conspiracy because they couldn’t get tickets - the promoters had bought so many there weren’t many left for the public to actually purchase.


It’s unfortunate that conservative media continues to manipulate their customers with propaganda and lies, but that is exactly what they want. The only way they can get ppl to watch this trash is to use more lies to attract more flies.

Because that's the nature of politics. The Right will frame the left as not caring about the issue and the left will frame the right as Qanon crazies.

The entire subject is brought up entirely by qanon, and was absorbed into the right wing ecosphere, because qanon is closely linked.
