Rigging only works because the other 1000 members allow it to work. No one can lead a team without a teams conscent, but more players are blindly accepting people just dictating they are leaders.
It is especially funny to me to watch people rise to leadership repeatedly despite losing the event year after year under their leadership.
I've been thinking about different bracket systems as well, that and the idea brought up in another thread, that would have attacks bw rewarded in relation to how hard/to they are. Where a strong player with 1000 hits on significantly weaker player they won't get the same reward as a player that have 1000 hits on other players in his own stat and level range. There are multiple ideas out there, and I agree that it should be more fair, and also have better controls to weed out slackers and trolls, with a minimum hit per day or you lose a token etc.
And everyone complaining about the rigging, come on, the top spot wasn't predetermined before the event started. And even less well organized and non affiliated teams did awesome.
There will always be politics in a game like this, but it is also completely up to everyone to prove their worth and take lead. If all of whiners from the other hof factions actually worked together and helped and motivated their teams as champion, Uncle and ovoxo did, there would have been a completely different final list. But I know it's easier to complain.
This is not praise to monarch as a faction or even their ww alliance. I despisw them both for their position and arrogance, but that doesn't mean I'll discard sound tactics and leaderskills just because of their "position". Psst. Pathetic
Don’t ask me how, or to come up with a suggestion, but is there anyway a change can be made so it isn’t “rigged” from the start ? By rigged i think most of us know what i mean, as i said i don’t really know what to suggest to stop this from happening, maybe a system in place where every 15-30 minutes teams are assigned a certain team/ target randomly whom they can attack to gain tickets, and the other team lose theirs, rather then the “top dawg” gathering up his crew and giving orders who to attack etc…
Since i’ve played elim it always seems to be a free for all at the start, then eventually most teams will have allies, and teams will get picked off one by on based on the “top dawg” orders, with each team given a random team to attack to gain their tickets could possibly balance it out a lot better and make it “less” rigged
Whenever you're on a team that benefits from it, you would never change it.
Being on Cheese I was very happy knowing that I was guaranteed top 4 with an awesome shot at 1st place. Of course I would "let that happen".
4 teams (out of 8) closely working together, there was nothing any of the other 4 teams could do. I think that's the core of the problem. The politics and drama of it all are part of the fun. When it goes too far, and roughly 5,000 players have 0.0001% chance at getting top 4 an hour into the competition, you need to change a couple things.
There should be an advantage of coordination and leadership, but not something that *can* determine the winner from the start.
A more organized, torn-controlled way of running for & choosing leadership, where it's not a race for who creates the first discord (if they haven't already had one pre-made in advance) or someone starting and ending a vote while people are still waking up irl and choosing the teams on day 1 .... might help with the rigging.
Perhaps more people don't step up and try to lead a team because they know exactly how elims goes down every year - perhaps people don't want to argue with the ones who secured leadership, cuz it's just not worth the hassle.
Seeing bogie's comment that this is the final elims in its current form had me hopeful for a better event in the future, and now Ched saying he thinks it's fine as is and there won't be changes is downright disappointing.
This. Monarch's superiority in dictating the event should also show a weakness in the setup, though currently void of ideas I'm sure someone somewhere could come up with an idea to make the event enjoyable for those who actively participate.
Really just wouldn't work. As tokens are a thing most people can still use for merits, it's in their best interest to join. That said, I find Eliminations to be the dullest event in Torn. Like, just plain boring and shit. I did my attacks in the last few days to get the tokens and that's it. That's the incentive to do the event for a lot of people and until that's reworked there's still going to be people joining just to get rewards.
Like, I don't want to do the event again, but it's just in sort of forced if you want the tokens. People have told me eliminations is the best event in Torn and I'd have to disagree; I just don't see it as fun. Granted, I didn't want to socialise in my team and I really had no interest in participating until the end to get the most tokens since it seemed worth it. There's always going to be people like me who just have 0 interest in the event sign up just for the tokens and until that changes it'll always be the case since the event just isn't for everyone.
Exactly right…selected members of Monarch bully their way to leadership roles and then ban their teams together and crush all other teams not run by them. Although I think highly of Monarch, I sadly think the first thing we need to do is ban selected Monarch members from the event. Every year they ruin Elimination.
Ched, if I get enough people to support this corrective measure, will you implement?
I've found engaging with low hitters a fairly interesting aspect of building up and tightening the team. Some people were joining opportunistically for tokens, but others did genuinely have a hard time or needed support. Excluding a certain percentage of the bottom of the hit list from getting any tokens at all might fix the first fairly easily.
Overall, I wasn't too bothered by the unflinching freeriders - every team had a certain percentage of them so it didn't particularly help or hinder anyone. Especially given that the zero hitter rule didn't apply anymore when it came to the calculation of the the top 5%.
Being able to kick would probably be a very bad idea, a committed core could winnow down the team to very small numbers and win that way. A one person Elimination team could almost automatically get the second place just by turtling all the way. :)
Rigging is fine as long as you’re discreet about it and in NS or CR, got it!
What the uproar about the recent elimination has shown me is that the average Torn citizen, quite simply, is lazy. They want things without putting in the effort; be it time, energy or brain power. This doesn’t solely apply to elimination, it summarises their approach to this game.
Anybody could have done what we did this elimination, assuming you’re in a decent enough faction and have a stellar enough reputation preceding you I struggle to imagine a team rejecting your leadership advances wholly. I’ve seen at least two sub 100 day olds rise up to leadership positions this year alone.
Everybody on this game, especially those who have been around a while has at least three or four friends that they could have done this with, but they chose not to. Why? I’d assume laziness, but maybe taking the time out of your day to volunteer for a job that has zero reward to it and the potential to completely ruin the public perception of you isn’t your sort of thing.
Entrenching leadership positions is a great way to see a repeat of Paul 2023 and Bumfluff 2022, the only fix for elimination I see long term is several more teams rather than the 8 we got this year.
