This guide is for new players to learn about all sorts of methods for making money. It will cover the basics of each method, but I will link advanced guides to topics where it is possible.

So, let's start

Making money using your energy:
  • Selling losses: Good for absolute beginners, not recommended for anyone else. Losses sell for 250k-350k per 25E used. Just attack the buyer and lose. You can find buyers in the attacking forums or trade chat. You can also join loss selling agencies such as Nebula Escorts, I hear they pay more than what I said :) Here's a guide, enjoy.
  • Reviving: You can revive people after reaching the brain surgeon position in the medical job. Revives use 75E (can be reduced to 25E with faction perks, make sure to join a reviving faction if you're doing this) and bring in 2 xanax or 2m cash per revive done. Here's a guide, best of luck.
  • Claiming bounties: Find bounties in the newspaper, hospitalize the targets, get the money. May be underpaid at times, but there are merits attached, so it is an option for merit hunters as well.
  • Ranked warring: Join a RW faction, and participate in wars. Different factions have different ways of deciding payouts, but usually it's a very good method of making money. Your faction will be able to guide you about how to do your best in RW. Can be a constant stay in the hospital for low stat members.
  • Mercenary work: Good for people with high stats. For hospitalizing targets, you can get paid anywhere between 2.5m-6m based on how much hospital time you can dish out. Can be a reliable source of income for people in SE range.
  • Mugging: Mug people and get various amounts of money based on what they have in their wallet. Often results in salty enemies, but can be highly profitable if done right. A variation of this is buymugging, which may or may not be frowned upon in torn society and can result in an even higher number of enemies and constant bounties. Mugging guide for those interested. Just don't blame me if you get perma-hosped.
  • Looting NPCs: Highly irregular and luck based, but can be profitable if you loot a high value item. Involves coordinating with other attackers to assist-kill NPCs such as Duke or Fernando or one of the others. There are also a couple of seasonal NPCs . Here is a guide explaining it all.
  • Hunting: Hunting is done by flying to South Africa. Yields a good amount of money at higher skill levels but generally not recommended as it comes at the cost of having low battle stats. Income can be increased by being in a zoo/meat warehouse/farm and with faction perks. Being in a 10* lingerie store is also a great idea as you can travel back and forth much quicker. Hunting for cash guide for anyone interested.
  • Missions: Not all, but most missions involve having to attack someone, and the mission rewards include some money. It's more useful for the mission credits tho, and you can buy items using that to sell for cash (NOTE: This is highly NOT recommended, you should never buy anything with mission credits that you can buy with cash- only use them to buy weapon mods/special ammo/books)
  • Searching the dump: Uses 5E and gives you a random item dumped by people. Not recommended except for the merit as usually you will get extremely low value items, though you could get a big find by chance but i have never heard of anyone recommending this. Still, it exists, so yeah.
Making money using your nerve:
  • Selling busts: Often you will find jailed citizens asking to be busted from jail in the trade chat. Uses 5 nerve (goes down to 2 nerve with faction perks) and can get you 400k or more from the thankful criminal. Or he may scam you. He was just in jail you know. Usually requires a knowledge of the busting system and a fairly high level as well as some educations to have a good enough success rate.
  • Crimes: Currently 12 crimes in crimes 2.0 have been released, and most of them don't seem to provide huge amounts of cash. However, as more crimes come out, there is sure to be a crime providing good monetary value for your nerve. For now, burglary/cracking seems to give good cash (I may be wrong tho. Pickpocketing cyclist is also good cash on average for example). This is the latest guide for scamming by Emforus (he has excellent guides for all crimes in crimes 2.0!), and you can find the links to other guides near the top of his guide.
  • OLD Faction organized crime: Does not directly use your nerve, but it is based on your natural nerve bar (NNB) which is built by using your nerve on crimes. At high NNB (60+), you can join the political assassination OC in your faction (provided you have teammates for it), and earn 100m-300m for your faction every 8 days. Your own payout from this depends on the faction, but it's sure to be a decent amount. NOTE: OCs are getting a rework soon so this method may not work the same way in a few months. Pursue at own risk.
  • NEW Faction organized crime: OC 2.0 is out, along with a great payout system! On average it does provide more income than the old OC too, except for maybe the PA regulars (not sure about that), so you might wanna go for it if your faction already migrated. UPDATE: New high tier OCs have been released and they seem to be similar/better than PA in terms of money earnt per person per day.
Making money with your torn job:
  • Direct income: Higher end companies such as TV networks pay good money to their employees. Requires high working stats. (Guide to quickly increasing work stats)
  • Selling items: You can exchange job points for items, and sell those on your bazaar for extra cash. Profitable examples include edvds from adult novelties and ecans from sweet shop and grocery store. For starter jobs, you can sell ecans in the grocer job.
  • Selling services: Many companies offer services in exchange for job points which you can sell. Profitable examples include true level reveals in candle store, logistics report in logistics management, friend or foe and flight time extensions in detective agency, stat spies in law firm, etc. Brings in varied amounts of cash, best to ask people in those companies for an idea of how much you can sell these for. For starter jobs, you can sell stat spies in the army job.
  • Indirect ways: Many jobs offer energy/nerve in exchange for job points, for which you can use the above points to earn money. A 10 star lingerie store unlocks free BCT travel, which is a faster way to make money from flying (see below). There may be other ways I missed.
  • Be a director: Some high-end companies provide good profits for the director at higher stars, however you will need the business educations and 2 stock blocks to properly run the company. You can also sell trains for 300-500k or so each, or maybe tax your employees (popular example: edvd tax in AN companies). Here is a guide to making profits as a director of cheaper companies.
  • Extra guide: Which company should I join?
Making money with your IRL job:
  • Selling donator packs: Buy donator packs in the donator house and sell for around 23m per pack. Easiest money if you're willing to spend IRL money on the game. Selling them at the pawn shop means a mug-free sell and may be recommended especially as a newbie (prone to muggings ngl), while selling on the item market can get you more cash but also involves the risk of getting mugged.
  • Subscriber status: Saves you the cost of buying a DP every month, and you know what they say - a penny saved is a penny earned, right? right?? Also gives you 2 free items every month which can be sold for cash, as well as gives books which can be used to earn yourself some extra cash in different ways. There are also daily points lotteries or something. I wouldn't know. I never subscribed (yet). EDIT: I subscribed didn't get anything good so far tho, but got a book and some caches so not too bad either. Meanwhile my faction mate managed to win the 10k points lottery so apparently it's not a myth.
Making money with your money (with effort):
  • Flying: Travel agency unlocks in the city when you hit level 15. Rent a PI with airstrip and hire a pilot for best profits. This is good for busy players who can log on when they land abroad or in torn. The plan is simple, buy for cheaper abroad, sell for profit in torn. Plushies and flower have the best profits, other profitable items include temporary weapons and xanax in SA. Here is a guide to make money from this. Use this website to check for foreign stocks before you fly, so you know you're gonna find your desired items there when you land.
  • Trading: One of the biggest money making ways in torn. Basically, you buy items from other players at slightly lower prices, and sell in your bazaar for profit. Have to be careful about being targeted by muggers, but other than that it's relatively risk free and an excellent way to richness. Read this guide and this one for more information. You can also trade in RW caches and weapons, here's the legendary guide. A variation of this is to stalk the item market and buy items being sold cheaper than usual, and later sell it for profits. You can also deal with points in the points market similarly.
  • Stock market: Need to buy the stock ticker in the points building (one time buy). Buy stocks when they are lower in price, sell when they are higher. I hear this is currently not yielding too much due to reduced volatility or something like that. Still, profit is profit, and the more you can invest the more you will get out of it. Just beware of when stock prices fall and you're stuck in a loss.
  • Poker: Admittedly I don't know anything about it at all. But I'm aware of many people making billions off it (will not take names in case people start bugging them). You need to be good at it tho otherwise all you would be doing is giving your money to guys like them. I cannot help you any further, having never played before.

Making money with your money (without effort) (AKA passive income):
  • Bank: Can invest upto 2b in the city bank (3b in a 10* oil rig), and this has the best ROI for your money. Can be increased with merits invested, and by buying 1.5m shares in the TCI stock. Earns 4m+ a day for a 3 month investment with 2b invested.
  • Stock benefit blocks: On buying a certain number of shares in any of the available stocks, you get certain benefits. Many times these benefits provide cash or sellable items. You can also get energy/nerve which can be used to earn money as given above. Easy way to earn passive income with excess money you don't know what to do with.
  • Become a landlord: Maxed PIs can be bought for 1.6b or so and rented out for 700k+ a day. Best part is that you can buy an unlimited amount of these and it won't reduce your ROI. Good luck managing all your tenants after buying 50 of these tho.
  • Cayman islands: The bank in Cayman Islands can store an unlimited amount of cash and pay out interest. Unfortunately the ROI is too little for this to be a good option to earn passive income even with faction perks and 7* oil rig perks.
  • Help someone out: You can rent out expensive equipment (such as hazmat suit, GAK, any good rw weapon etc.) for a daily fee. You can also help them out with money in the same way and charge interest. Can be risky but good for if you have someone trustworthy (or if you can have something for collateral).
  • Linked guide: Deadringers passive income investment guide
Making money from seasonal events:
  • Halloween: In short, you buy a halloween basket, then attack other players for treats and use those to upgrade your basket. After sufficient upgrades, it becomes extremely profitable to exchange your treats for candy/alcohol/ecans/supply packs etc. Here is a good guide for Halloween. Here is another. Check when the event will be active in the calendar, and remember to prepare beforehand. NOTE: It will take multiple halloweens for you to be able to gather enough treats for all the upgrades.

  • Christmas town: Many players find it boring to do, however you can earn over 20m a day easily just by being active in Christmas town and walking around collecting gifts and keys, meeting santa, playing the games, etc. Here is a beginner readup on CT. Check when the event will be active in the calendar.

Miscellaneous ways to make money:
(Probably missing a lot of ways here but I write the ones that come to mind)
  • Filling blood bags: Fill empty blood bags, sell filled ones. Empty ones can be bought from the pharmacy for 15k each. Filled ones sell differently based on the blood type.

  • Buying items from city shop: 100 items can be bought daily from the shops which you can sell in your bazaar for profit. Bottles of beer, empty blood bags, pepper sprays, sheep/teddy/kitten plushies are some profitable examples.

  • Selling bounty slots: Place bounties on behalf of someone else for your fee of 50k-150k per bounty. Can result in retaliation from the person you bounty, and no one else will be responsible, so be careful.

  • Advertisement: Can earn 1-3m per hour advertising for someone else on the trade chat or bumping their posts in the forums. You will probably have to provide 40-50 ads over the hour in the trade chat for people to think you did a good job. Not allowed anymore. Advertise your own stuff.

  • Graphic designing: Make graphics for others and get money from it. Prices vary.

  • Script/website/discord bot making: Good for programmers. There are already many such services for free already tho, so you will have to be creative with what you do. People may or may not want to pay for your services and might prefer to do things manually.

  • Running other jobs for people: People may have random jobs for you to do, and offer varied amounts of cash in exchange. For example, Dilligaf777 let me know that he made almost 75m from converting friend/foes results of a guy into a proper list of clickable links. You may find other people willing to pay for such jobs in the trade chat or forums, have a look around.

Irregular ways to make money:
  • Casino: Highly recommend not to try, however if you're feeling lucky who am I to stop you? Just saying, you're more likely to lose than gain. Poker and RR are popular too. Here is a guide to earning big cash from the casino.

  • Giveaways: Find and join giveaways in the forums or on various discord servers. If you are lucky you might win something.

  • City finds: In the map view of the city tab, you can find various spawned items that you can collect and sell. Extremely luck based but you can find valuables such as stat enhancers, cesium, artifacts, etc. Can also find books very rarely.

  • Being obnoxious: Suggested by player Chachisnorter, i quote: "if you have really high bounties on you (eg 1.5m) then people will pay you to discharge from the hospital so that they can claim the bounty.". Make of this what you like. I saw them in the newspaper with 15 bounties worth 2m each, so it works (?).

I may have missed several more methods, feel free to call it out in the replies and I'll add those too This is my first guide so feedback is greatly appreciated. Hope this helps some of you guys out

This is super informative for non green leaf like me, seen things I haven't seen elsewhere, is so super informative I still have to go through it another two reads. Thank you BattlebeeAlpha!!

This list is helpful. one thing I would say I get familiar with the markets and prices. For example look for people selling champagne under the B/B sell price. It isnt alot of money (so most players dont do it) but it can get that little bit more you need (and its free money).

For a fresh-ish noob with minimal starting cash, consider trying to join a 10 star Software Corporation (the stats required are pretty low).

Sit in it for 3 months, you'll have around 900 job points - I'd recommend waiting for 750 points at a minimum, but the more the better (since there is no 'mug protection' for the intricate hack job special we're going to do).

For this job special, we want to find targets that need to significant amounts of liquid cash, who may be a bit sloppy/lazy. You see... Faction banks require trust, property vaults are limited to 1 billion, stocks have a fee for selling (and used to rise and fall - kek), but Company banks are unlimited and completely secure... if they have the appropriate stock block.

So we're poking around, trying to find targets who use Company banks to store funds, and might have accidentally forgot to purchase the appropriate block to safeguard that pile of cash.

You want to compile a list of a few dozen potential targets - you can get this from hall of fame, or elsewhere. For myself, I pulled it from a list in forums of the X people who have used the most SEs recently (since they must have bank).

For all those targets, go through a handful each day (or however many you have the patience for).

Your goal is to disqualify each target:
  • If they are not the owner of the company they are in, they are disqualified (that means they aren't using its bank).
  • [Optional] Check the people in the company. Do you know any? Any in your faction, or any low levels you might be able to bribe? See if you can get someone to tell you the balance in the company bank (they can see it by opening their job screen). If balance is low, disqualified.
  • If no other red flags, use the job special Corporate Espionage (50 points) against the person. Most likely, you will get a response saying it failed, you were unable to bypass the firewall. This is PERFECT - it lets us disqualify them, for free (as firewall responses do not actually consume the 50 job points). This means they own the appropriate stock block.
  • If a spy in the company told you there was a juicy pile of cash in the bank, or if you succeeded in a Corporate Espionage and found a juicy pile of cash, drop as many Intricate Hack job specials as you can and steal all that cash.
This method requires a lot of patience, but the payoff can be huge, especially for newb players without a lot of money from other means.

It's feasible because firewall fails do not consume job points - so your sole goal is to reduce/eliminate the number of times you do a Corporate Espionage against someone without the stock block and who doesn't use the company bank, which isn't as hard as you'd think.

When I did this, I got bored of it and couldn't stick to the strategy for that long (Software Corporation jobs really suck). But when I did it, I had narrowed down my target list to 30 people taking a lot of SEs.

I went through 22 targets before I found my mark. Of those first 21, 18 had the stock block (resulting in a "firewall" result), 3 did not have the stock block and had minimal funds (resulting in wasting 150 points / 15 days). The guy I went with had a high enough pile of cash for a decent return on my time investment, so I called it there and dumped all my points on him and quit that job as quick as I could.
