Newbie here. I have 12k and a few guns. Nothing crazy. BUT it shows mu net worth as 400k??? What do I have that's worth that? All items are cheap. Clothes are cheap. I don't get it.

Your networth comes from a range of things in your stats page - so checking that will probably give you a clue.
Also most items are worth something different from what you may have gotten them for, so check their value on the item market.

As mentioned above you can see where your networth comes from in your stats which you can access by clicking on your profile.
