Like the “Bank Invest” City:
Don’t forget to do this weekly. Items DO build up so if you haven’t looked, be sure to get back in there and find some prizes! Share with the faction your best finds. (Or your worse so we can mock you.)
The way to search is go to the City screen. Make sure you are looking at the MAP and not the QUICK LINKS. It is a aerial map view of TORN.
TIP – Zoom in (one less than) all the way. Start in a corner and then if you scroll quickly one screen (frame) over, everything is black for a fraction of a second before the map appears. That black/ghosted area will show icons of factions as well as any items that you find. (These appear as tiny icons in dotted circles.) Keep scrolling quickly to the next screen/frame and keep your eyes open.
TIP – Get the TORN app from the game store. If you search the city in this app (phone or tablet) it makes it VERY easy and clear if you find anything.
Bank Investment:
Be sure to invest in the bank (in the city). Start with the 1 week. Then collect and invest in the 1 week one. The the 1 month, the 2 month and lastly the 3 month choice. Even if you don’t want to invest, invest the bare minimum just to open the next tier.
Do this in case you every want or need to invest in the highest option. You must unlock the previous tier to be able to move onto the next tier (meaning you can start initially investing for 3 months immediately).
Money:
Where to put it? Most know but for those that don’t (or reminding those others):
Faction Vault:
Pro: Very Safe. Easy to deposit from the faction page.
Con: Leadership must be online to withdraw and give you your funds.
Risk: Unsavory faction may steal your money and leave you with nothing.
Cayman Islands:
Pro: Easy to deposit and withdraw – you are in complete control.
Con: VERY dangerous for mugging. People KNOW there is banking done here so the targets are plentiful and can easily be worth the energy.
Con: You MUST fly to Cayman Islands to deposit or withdraw.
Risk: Substantial for mugging. **Remember – you get about 10 “SAFE” seconds upon landing. So, you should have plenty of time to buy some plushies, deposit your money, and get back on a plane. Don’t linger!
Torn Bank:
Pro: EXTREMELY safe. Easy to deposit from the city (main Torn page).
Pro: You earn interest! HUGE plus!
Con: Money is locked in your investment until it comes available. (This depends on which investment you put your money into (see my comments on banking earlier.).) HUGE minus!
Risk: Virtually none.
Private Island Vault:
Pro: VERY safe. Easy to deposit from the city (main Torn page).
Con: If you have a spouse on your island, you have the option to share the vault or not to share. If you share, they can put money in and take it out just as you can (even if it is your island).
Risk: Virtually none. Unsavory spouse may steal your money and leave you with nothing.
Stocks:
Pro: Easy to put money in and take it out.
Pro: Can make $money$ if the stock does well and you sell for a profit.
Pro: If you buy (unlock) a full increment, you get the stock perk!
Con: Can lose $money$ if the stock does poorly and you sell for a loss.
Con: There is a small (3% I think) transaction fee when you sell.
Risk: A little if you plan on using this only as a means to store/access money because of con’s listed above.
Inventory (First Aid, Temporary Weapons, etc.)
Pro: Keeps your supplies stocked.
Pro: Easy to spend money to buy things. ?
Pro: Keeps your wallet empty so if you get mugged, you don’t “lose” that money.
Con: Not really “saving” your money. Doesn’t give you any money when you really need it.
Risk: None. You have no money so there is no risk of losing it.
Loan Shark:
Similar to the “Bank Investment” above.
Take out a loan, and pay it back immediately. You will pay a little interest. Next day, do it again.
Keep doing this as often as you remember.Like the “Bank Invest” above, the amount offered will get greater and greater each time.
This will come in VERY handy when you absolutely MUST have some extra cash for the particular situation and you can’t access it or don’t have it any other way.
Chaining:
(Pay attention).
I think I have proven myself to be able to chain decently. This is how to do it. (on a computer – you cannot do this on a phone)
(Remember each attack costs 25E. So, to get a solo chain to 10, you must have (minimum) 250E. To solo chain to 25, you must have (minimum) 625E.)
(This is not a site-seeing time. This
Prepare:
Search User’s Name/ID. Type in three (3) quick random letter. Ie: “wer” or “sdf” or “qwe”. This method gives you level 1 players 90% of the time. Click the first name on the drop down list. Attack, kill, leave. Do not mess around. You are looking for speed! Once the “continue” button pops up, don’t even click that. Straight back up to the search bar. Type the name again “wer”. Click the 2nd name on the drop down list. Lather, rinse, repeat.
When you get to the 5th name on the drop down, do not scroll. (takes too much time). Just type in a new quick three letter name and start again.
If this is in a Ranked War, be sure to know your #10 target before you start. Be sure to pick two or three opposing faction members in case the one you want is in hospital or travelling when you are ready for that Chain #10 hit on him!
Ranked War Attacking:
Take the list of opposing faction battle stats provided prior to each war. Look at those stats compared to you and determine who you can likely beat.
Open each of those opponents (that you can beat) in their own separate tab.
Drag them around and organize them so you have them in order for when they can be attacked.
ie: the soonest getting out of the hospital the soonest first to those with longer down-times.
This way, you can quickly and easily see who your targets are and if you can hit them.
TIP – you can view the faction page and the war pages overseas!
TIP – While you are drug-cooldown from Xanax, your stats will be decreased dramatically. Prior to the war, Xanax stack, stack, stack. Then run to Switzerland for a full rehab. Now that you are clean, right as the war starts, pop a Vicodin. This will give you a substantial boost to your stats for 3 hours.
TIP – if you cannot hit someone, do NOT just sit there and be a target. Some of the best help you can give in a war at times is to fly, fly away! Do NOT become a target. If you are a repeated target, tell leadership so we can see if we can help.
TIP – When attacking opponents, LEAVE them. Mugging during a war is considered done in poor taste. Hospitalizing them puts them in for about 3 hours. LEAVING them is the quickest in and out (about 25 minutes) so we can hit them again.
TIP – Retaliation hits (hitting an opponent that just killed one of our faction members) gives us extra points! So, pay attention to that. Do not let yourself become a ‘retal’. And instead – watch the chat and if you see a hit on one of your brethren or sisters, try to take that attack out.
TIP – WATCH THE G-DARN FACTION CHAT!
TIP – If you can catch an opponent overseas, try to camp them. We get extra points for kills made overseas. So, hit them and leave them and then just sit there watching their clock and the SECOND they come out of hospital, put their ass right back in. When you are flying away, hit them on last time and THAT is when you want to hospitalize them so they are stuck for a while.
TIP – To easily tell if an opponent is online or not, open a chat window with them and minimize it (don’t close it). The bubble light will be green if they are online.
TIP – During a RW, if you are hospitalized by anyone NOT from the opposing faction, you will have the (free) option to early release from hospital. Hence, leadership asking other factions to attack those we are worried may be a target for our opponents.
TIP – This is the same reason leadership may put large bounties on your heads. It is NOT because we don’t like you…well, most of you. ? It is because we want you to NOT be a target to our opponents.
Selling:
Don’t get mugged.
Sell to faction members when possible or trusted people.
Just because you get mugged right after selling a large $$ amount does NOT mean the person that you just sold to did the mugging. There are bots and magic out there watching for large sale (same goes for playing Russian Roulette). If it says “someone” mugged you, you do NOT know who. So, keep the hate in check.
To prevent mugging, NEVER put a large $$ item for sale and then go offline. Or, put your item for sale and self hospitalize by taking a bad blood bag (or other ways).
Training and Battle Stats:
Train your battle stats in the gym as much as possible!
Pick three (3) stats to train.
Strength: Does more damage when you hit your opponent. (I know it makes no sense with a gun but, it’s a game so….)
Defense: You take less damage when your opponent hits you.
Speed: Better chance of hitting your opponent & decreases their chance of escapte.
Dexterity: Better chance of not getting hit, increases YOUR chance of a stealth attack and decreases your opponents chance of one, and increases your chance of escape.
While there are other ways to help raise battle stats (ie: job perks, education, equipment, books, items, gear and drugs) – You MUST hit the gym as much as possible.
Attacking does NOT raise your battle stats. Attacking only gives you experience (level up) and respect points (assuming you win). (oh, and $$ if you mug).
A good indicator on how you are doing in Torn is to look at the “Hall of Fame” button. (It is located in the “Areas” menu with the “City”, “Missions”, “Crimes”, “Casino” buttons.
Pay attention to the “LEVEL” tab (top left) to the “BATTLE STATS” tab (down 3 tabs from “LEVEL”. If these are equal your stats are appropriate to your level (compared to all other players). So, if your LEVEL scoreis #54086, you want to get those battle stats up by training before you level up anymore. (You can level hold if needed.) Try to keep these as close as possible or better yet, you want your BATTLE STATS score to be a (less) better rank than your LEVEL.
A Simple Guide to help you get started.

First Aid Kit $8,000
Empty Blood Bag $17,000
Stocks:
Prices are approximate. You want to purchase full blocks of stocks. (A block of stock is when you own enough of the stock to get the benefit of that stock.)

Benefit – able to draw your blood to know your blood type and to fill empty blood bags.
*Note: after this is done, buy and try blood types that are NOT your blood type. Find a bad type that will hospitalize you – good to know for Russian Roulette or in times of war.
*Note: after this is done, you should be filling empty blood bags as often as possible. Your life refills pretty quick.
*Note: Buying empty blood bags on the open market and filling them is cheaper than buying and using first aid kits!
Crimes:
Prices are approximate. Start with one of the following:
Shoplift > Sweet Shop > A Few Chocolate Bars -4 Nerve
Box of Chocolate Bars sell for $650
Big Box of Chocolate Bars sell for $8,000
OR
Shoplift > Clothes Shop > Jacket -4 Nerve
Jackets sell for $200
Note: Choco’s are nice for resale value. Easy money at lower levels. BUT, you get caught and jailed more. Jackets are not nearly as profitable but you should rarely if EVER get caught. Your choice.
General Tips:
*Never chat in the Global chat window
You WILL be targeted and attacked. Just don’t do it.
*Level 1-14 = ONLY goal is to get to level 15 so you can fly!
*Bazaar 250 points
*Never mug (unless you have a target that you KNOW has big $$)
*When you attack – always ‘LEAVE’. (you get most xp this way)
*Money
*Carry as LITTLE amount of money as possible.
*If you get mugged for big $$, you will be a target and it WILL continue to happen.
*Use the faction vault to store your money – it will be safe there.
*Use money to buy Grenades and First Aid Kits.
*All extra money should be saved for the following purchases:
*Buy enough points to buy a Bazaar – 250 points ($11,000,000)
*A bazaar allows you to sell items without a listing fee.
*Next purchase should be stocks.
