The price history does not correctly represent the actual historical prices for the item "Fine Chisel".
The item was bought/sold for millions for several years, now the price history shows a value of $1-$1000 for the life of the item.
Is this a bug or did they intentionally alter the price history?

The prices that we identified in the internal discussion appear to be correct based on the screenshot.

The price history graph ignores any short term random jumps up to incredibly high prices, because as you can imagine, that permanently ruins the graph for anyone browsing at it as it has to zoom out very far.

Was this a short term trend?

Hi Ched, this was not a short-term trend. The market price was up over 1M for the past several years. This was consistent and not one-off sales. I had acquired around 1,000 of the chisels and was selling them off. I still have 572 fine chisels, so this price adjustment was a pretty significant hit on my end.

More info:
There have been ~12,000 of these fine chisels in circulation since 2014. This was a somewhat static number with very few being added to the game. That was the reason I invested in them. On 01 Sept '23, new fine chisels started being introduced into the game. There are currently 37,000+, so I understand why they are now worth about $100.
The price history appears to have been deliberately altered or replaced altogether along with this update.

A similar trend has happened with C4 Explosive - a relatively static circulation item that had been overpriced for a long time because of the fabricated scarcity.

The price has naturally fallen significantly since new ones are being added to the game, yet the value graph does not historically represent the prices paid years ago.

To me, it actually looks like the value graph may have deleted the sales information between 2019 - 2023.

The "Last 3 Years" graph only displays back to September of 2023.
