In the event of an alien invasion, would humans unite to fight against the aliens, try to side with the aliens for their own gain against other nations, or fend for themselves? What do you think would happen and why and what countries would do what?

Like Aliens invade Earth and try to take it over maybe they want to enslave us, maybe they want to eat us, maybe they want to annihilate us, maybe they just want to save the animals and planets from our existence

The first book goes from science fiction to mystical tech goop in the last chapter unfortunately. I found the idea that there were a huge number of influential humans all ready to actively aid in exterminating the human race was always a really big stretch as well.

You replied to my personal opinion about a piece of work by pointing to its goodreads score. I feel like you don't quite get how these sorts of things work

tbh if aliens invaded Earth I'd probably be fine with capture since I'd be so awe struck by the whole thing.

"HAULT HUMAN, YOU ARE COMING WITH US!"

"Onto your spaceship? f**k YEAH I AM"

Simply put : maybe.

I mean, we could see the absolute bipartisan support against the Japanese by the two major Chinese governments in ww2, that sort of thing would be the best case scenario.

On the other hand, there has literally been nothing that has ever united the whole human race in the history of the planet. There's always gonna be a crazy redneck or hippie that opposes things that have near unanimous support or opposition.

There was one thing that United every nation for the common good, that was the ban on cfcs. However, that was more about experts convincing government officials, if it was held to a vote it would probably have went just as well as if you voted to go net zero.

Simply put : governments can be united when they have common interests but people are stupid and they will always find a way to argue their way out of doing the right thing, even if it means death.
windyrockbell [2805009]
I could see mutual coordination being hard, but I'm not cynical to believe there would be the formation of a "Let's allow the aliens to eat us" party.

"The aliens will only eat THOSE people" party though...

I mean, we would have already killed ourselves with weapons of mass destructions before aliens even discover us
windyrockbell [2805009]
This isn't necessarily true. Aliens could show up tomorrow and we would still be alive. Destroying ourselves is more likely to happen than aliens arriving, but they are ultimately unrelated until one of the other happens
A707 [2600371]
Who says they haven't already discovered us? We seem to think aliens will just let us know that they are watching us but maybe, just maybe, they were with us all along...
