Very high CPU usage in chrome by Torn

Seems they are aware of this issue judging by the Ched's post. So will have to live with it for now and look for temporary solutions like changing browsers or using phone.

TL;DR Item 3D images bad, turn on browser HW Acceleration.

Fix this or give me option to turn off animations as I still need to take xans or #fkrhino will kick me and I don't want to use HW Acceleration (I'm having it off, as it has frequently caused stutters for me during gaming if it's on and there's animation/video playing on second screen.)

This has been going on for a while for me, fans suddenly ramping up and sometimes bluescreening.
At first I thought it was bad OC on my part, but then I pinpointed it to my browser ramping CPU randomly and crashing in middle of the game, but only when I was doing stuff alt+tabbed.
Tested 3 different browsers with no success.
Finally pinpointed it to torn and specifically item animations.
They are doing some VERY heavy load on CPU if HW acceleration is off. It puts immense load on all 24 logical cores. ~20% of the time I click item preview it straight up crashes my pc (Overclocked, but CB23 stable & OCCT stable). I actually Bluescreened 2 times before I got the image with huge CPU spike.
Switching tab, shutting browser or loading new page/refresh fixes it until I open 3D preview again.
Crime banners also cause some load, but not nearly as much as those 3D previews.

12900k @5.2GHz/3.9GHz all core
DDR5 6400MHz CL32
3080ti

At every point during this troubleshoot I Bluescreened with CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT error, might have taken few hours or few days, even weeks, but my CPU was stable during stress tests (not AVX though) and gaming.

Troubleshoot I've done in order:
dropped clocks 5.3>5.2
raised voltages > raised them more > and more..
disabled CPU & GPU Powersavings as I thought it could be bad voltages on low load.
took off GPU undervolts
tested stock GPU
tested stock CPU
dropped RAM 6600 CL30>6400 CL32(XMP)
different browsers Chrome>Firefox>Opera GX
At this point I pinpointed it to Torn
Tested without extensions
Here I pinpointed it to 3D item preview
Solution: Turned Hardware acceleration ON for browser.

Now to the data.
All of these are from fresh boot, with only Opera GX with 1 tab of torn & Task Manager/HWiNFO64 on. Also no Torn extensions.

LOOK AT THAT, Vcore is hitting my hard voltage limit of 1.46V and taking whopping 220W. Imagine if I hadn't set that voltage limit... these previews could literally fry some older CPUs that don't have as robust safeguards.

For comparison, this is what it looks while playing PUBG with 240 FPS cap (very CPU and RAM intensive) note the higher CPU clocks and lower GPU volts/clocks and it's still not pulling near same voltages/power, this has been taken before all the troubleshoots.

Now to tune back my old OCs..

Having an option to turn off the 3D view and just showing a high res image (which is nice) would be great. Having rotating 3D models of the items in a game like Torn feels like a meme, something we'd joke about implementing because it's so outrageously unnecessary.

it is similar in Firefox. Just open any page and it hogs one core at 80-100% for tens of seconds. If any animations are involved (flying, crimes2), it keeps the cpu pinned at 100% forever.

Linux, four-core Celeron N5100, other websites are snappy. Torntools are disabled here and only tree style tabs extension is installed.

With so many people, multiple browsers, multiple screens and methods identified performance issues but none of those have been viable to replicate? are they testing it on a supercomputer?

It's not like they can drop everything else they're doing and start looking into this. Surely this takes some time to replicate and get to bottom of this.

Here's a FF profile of high CPU and RAM usage on idle. CPU appeared to be around 160% with 1GB of RAM usage. Observed on Firefox 120.0.1 on Manjaro 23.1.0.

Performance has really gone to crap on this game, what woth chat 2.0 and now Ct. Plus going to desktop mode on mobile produces an endless loop of cloudflare. Just killing the experience, its not the game it was

Also noticed a huge CP load on mobile recently. I have the higest newer s24 and lately torn has been making even it overheat. Youtube videos all day long dont phase it but couple minutes in torn and its excessively hot to touch

also something is randomly reloading torn pages when something hits a limit of some sort. Doing my head in. Especially noticeable in CT, Forums and Poker..

Same issues here, with a 32GB/SSD/1660ti/4GHzmulticore stable PC (current uptime at 10 days).

Possible clue:
Spin the wheel, watch it stutter (big time) for few turns - then, at some point, it transitions to rotating smoothly and stays like that until you stop it.

blocking all connections to sendbird.com clears the lag and stutter on my side.

Anyone know how I can achieve this on iPhone..

Old but..

I've been having this issue for weeks now, like a previous poster stated I originally thought it was my PC.
Firefox is at 50-60% CPU usage/high power usage, fans firing up as soon as I start to do crimes or anything that has pages that are image heavy, items, xmas town, crimes 2, travelling, warring is terrible, thats with all plugins disabled.
I have blocked sendbird.com which does help a alittle but not much. i will keep sendbird blocked as that has other issues.
I have tried Edge browser, Brave and Yandex ALL have this problem. Yandex probably being the more resilient to whatever is going on here but not by much.
Similarly i found logging in through my phone going to items, clicking on any items image, which then enlarges caused my phone to lock for afew seconds..
To put the resources drain into perspective on my system, I can watch a 2160p film through VLC, or a youtube video at 1080p+, neither drain as much resources as torn is currently doing.

Is this an issue on players end with what people are talking about blocking sendbird.com and how is that related to torn ?

My lag increases significantly if I am typing in chat over the last couple of days. Laptop fan spins up a lot and load near 100 %.

I have tested without scripts and in incognito, as well as with clearing Torn cache alone and with clearing all browser data. Clearing the Torn cache alone fixed the issue for a few hours, and clearing all browser data fixed it for a couple of hours now.

Torn lags and stutters, just typing this out it can take a sec before a letter appears, I can even type out whole words before all the letters appear at the same time. Same issue with crimes, busting, even just scrolling a page sometimes. Typing the rest of this in notepad because of the actual lag when typing in Torn...

I have no issues with any other website, I have tested other game sites with actual graphics to confirm it's not a browser issue. I can also play AAA games, so it's certainly not a "computing power" issue, but I figured I'd test other browser games that require more than what a text game should.

I have 32GB of RAM, NVME main drive and 2x2TB SSD's in RAID 0, i5-10600k (12 logical cores, 4.1-4.8 GHz) in a ROG Strix Z490-E Gaming motherboard.

I suspect the issue is with the new chat, as I've heard of someone who blocked the chat and got rid of the issue. Not sure if they had the same issue though, as I didn't read their thread (if they made one).
