Combo chests

I have found two combo chests in the last day that don't work, you hit the unlock button and nothing happens none of the numbers change colors it just stays the same bronze color you when you first look at the numbers. I even try leaving and going back in and it still doesn't work. Have anyone else had this problem?

Try 456, dont leave it on 123. 1 through 9 are valid.

Try 789, don't leave it on 456, 9 down to 1 are valid.

There are 3 bug reports of combination chests not showing a colour when the correct number is found

Bet it's a mod...

On your 3rd image you have the 6 in the middle as green so your 100% sure that's the correct place (luckily it was)
But how did you know it was the right place

You were lucky you found correct order but actually you are doing slightly wrong.

In 3rd step you should chose 289 o4 769. By doing so you can identify 2 things: 3rd correct digit and correct place of digit 2. If 8 and 9 are not correct digits then you will know 7 should. Also if 2 is not in correct order you will know the correct order of that digit

Last year you couldn't change a number when correct [green], have to check if this is still the case.
Suffered 2 fails this year, when I got one right on the first attempt.

There are only three numbers. He identified both the 2 and the 8 as numbers in the combo but not in the right spot in the middle position. That only left 6 as the correct number for the middle position.

No, there is an advantage, with the method i suggested 100% guarantee that you will find all codes. Otherwise prove me I am wrong.

EDIT: I am wrong, there is no solution with 100% guarantee, however you can increase your odds by applying technique I mentioned above

After guessing 289 you'd have GOR

Then you'd know that the middle digit HAS to be 6 as you've already tried 6 on the end and it was Orange.

And that the last digit HAS to be 8.

No guessing/luck involved.

How? The correct combo is 268 in your example.

If you guess 289, you can't then have 672 or 762 as possibilities......

In my example yes but the combo after 2 tries could be 672 or 762 too, not 268 it ends up being 268

This is the best guessing method

for example

From this scenario by not using 9 we know it has to be 9 as we only have 2 acceptable numbers confirmed 7+4 with no other numbers to test except 9

We have also tested two positions for 4 so we can determine it must be in the middle
We know that 7 can not be in the first due to orange and not the second due to 4 so we can determine it must be in the 3rd spot
We now only have the first spot available and only 9 left so that must be the answer

Lets try again with the actual worst case scenario

your options are 978 or 897

The problem occurs when the last number is ambiguous and you only know 1 spot or when all spots are ambiguous. With 56/504 combinations leading to this creating a 50/50 or equating to ~95% success rate (broken up in 90% correct all the time and 10% being correct 50% of the time)
