There's no real solution here to fix this from a user perspective, outside of a script ripping the entire chat app from the DOM (which means you won't get chats anymore).
Your best bets are clearing your cache often, on any and all browsers you use.
100%. My battery life has shown significant reduction since Halloween when I switched over to mobile primary.
Im convinced there is little to zero testing done beyond checking to see if something works and sometimes thats not even done. We are the beta testers.
Theres been stuff released recently that didn't even work at all or even worked the opposite of intended and took a week for people to unlock it to report it.
That proves absolutely zero testing Or extremely high level of incompetence.
Seriously, though, there's no way even some of the developers haven't noticed by now, assuming they've at least ran some basic comparison tests (tracking battery drain while active in-game, then likewise without the app even installed) on their own phones (if they don't normally use the mobile site); why is this still not a confirmed issue? Has anything been done about this, at all?
In all fairness, Torn isn't some huge megacorporation with an unlimited testing budget.
They normally use the committee as beta testers, however you can't really do this with Chats (if they forced all the committee to chat 2.0 then they wouldn't be able to interact with the rest of the players in the game).
And these kinds of issues won't come up in your development environment, as development environments always turn your devices into a fireball if you leave them running for more than an hour.
The problem is, now that it's a known issue it needs to get fixed asap, because it will only get worse and worse.
Okay but simple education update was workong opposite of intended. Was that even tested? Clearly not.
The issue is we can point tons of errors and issues that are due solely for the lack of testing. Between RW effects not properly applying to new educations released not working, even if you can justify Chat 2 issues there still some concern on how things are being tested or lack there of.

I have received the following update from the devs. We should be able to push the fix to prod soon if no issues are found during testing.
Ok so we also have an update on the CPU issues. We were already working on some refactoring of the API calls and this along with some other updates is looking promising to bring the CPU usage down significantly. It jumps up on page load (as expected because we’re loading many channels) but quickly drops to a much more reasonable and expected level.
The plan is for us to move this to the dev site shortly, so we can then do more extensive regression testing. Given this we are aiming to get this testing completed tomorrow with a view to releasing this update tomorrow.
Beyond this we have also identified some other ways to further reduce the usage so will look to implement these once the main release above is done.
Is it possible torn is loading some kind of data non stop overtime and its causing the file its accessing to get bigger and bigger, which in turn makes the PC work harder to load it causing the lag and load most people are experiencing? It is also apparent to me this has happened ever since chat 2.0 was released. If this is any use to the devs to investigate the issue further I hope this helps.

We have pushed a fix for the CPU usage issue, please confirm if you are seeing any noticeable difference.
I am definitely seeing a drop in the CPU usage, however i saw it already yesterday after I deleted my torn data saved on my browser (72 GB worth). I am not sure if its related, I also noticed torn running much smoother, animations on the Leslie wheels not stuttering like before, entering numbers into fields didn't lag like before either. Overall torn is running much much better for me.
Can confirm CPU usage is much lower now.
Please do look into the huge data saved on browser issue tho - i think it may be related to this somewhat.
Several people I've talked to also discovered huge amounts of data saved on their drives (many GBs worth)
I’ve not used my Pc for 3 weeks so can provide a figure from early Dec to compare with
Will monitor CPU usage.. but late though as I’m off home soon and my biggest issue during holiday has been long trips my phone battery died way too quick.. ah well. Teach me for playing torn on holiday huh
Yeah some people reported the CPU usage issue on their phones too, it used up their battery much faster due to it and it times almost overheated the devices.
And that's brought me under 1GB total, so it seems that the sendbird data was causing this bloat (would also explain why it seems to be affecting the official app).
