The current stock market works well for players with sub-50b net worth as they can simply buy the benefit blocks and sit on them. The nerf was very impactful for the >50b crowd though. Of course, no one is going to shed a tear for the "rich" people who have lost one of the last interesting things to do in the game.

However, when you look a bit deeper, Ched's nerf of the stock market is not without consequences. To understand this, lets back up to the main purpose of the stock market - to tie up player's money. Players were enticed to sink their money into the stock market in return for benefits and potential price appreciation. This arrangement kept excess cash from floating around the economy causing inflation and other problematic effects.

Now that players have come to the realization that even smart trading is likely to only earn 20-25% per year, they are asking themselves "where can I get a higher return with less risk?" Players have, and will, likely move to these revenue sources:
  • Creating, buying, and renting private islands in droves, thus driving down rental prices and unbalancing the rental market.
  • Creating more companies, leading to worker shortages, lower individual company income, and massive inflation (the company system pumps more money into the game than any other input - more companies, more money creation).
  • Buying up items. Players have already noticed how higher end weapons have become out of reach for most players. Players likely will start hoarding items as they may appreciate, thus driving up item prices (aka inflation).
  • Creating more cache farms to replace "lost" income, which weakens the faction system, and results in more negotiated ranked wars.
I'm sure there are other unbalancing effects too. The point is, the money is going to go somewhere if it is not enticed to stay in the stock market. It sure feels like the changes in player behavior that this nerf has caused, and will continue to cause (at probably an accelerated pace), were not properly considered. I would also note that much of alternative uses for cash don't involve risk. You are supposed to get paid for risk, no?

book of carols are currently around 10 mil each, speculation on future crime 2.0 educations might be to blame, but still too high

poison mistletoe hasn't fallen below 16 mil and after raising in price, is now hovering between 20 mil and 23 mil

casino passes are hovering above 20 mil and didn't fall below 18 mil

and business class tickets haven't fallen below 5 mil despite having over 40k dumped into circulation due to HW and CT

IMO, these prices shouldn't be that high

candies and alcohol seem to be fine, same for E cans, i think, not sure of anything else that might be affected

If the stock market was played driven, it would be more fluid and function with realistic risk that could translate to real substantial gains and losses. The fact that it is an algorithm that will fluctuate within a randomized parameter up to a high point lock and a low point lock, means limited upside and downside potential.

As such, unless you're actively day trading, you'd make more with weekly bank investments, as those each can be more than you'd gain if you left the same amount in a stock ticker for 7 days. The only caveat is if you dividends AND no merits in Interest rates. If you don't boost your interest rates, then dividends will likely pay you more value every distribution period.

Just my input.

Spot on. The next form of a torn world war will also be interesting, factions can’t make money quick enough to fund these mega wars so it’ll kill that aspect of the game too.

Such a ridiculously poor change to the game - the worst part being such little feedback from Ched. Even some made up graphs showing that this awful change has somehow worked as he intended would help - or admitting the mistake and reverting back.

during the last torn world war, ched altered how many smoke grenades could be sold per day to lower the price on the item market, i expect the same manipulation being done to allow for more war to be affordable with the money faucet being broken

even RWs is losing its profits overall, idk what ched plans to do about that, maybe OCs 2.0 will be a huge money maker along with regular crimes 2.0, disposal and cracking seems to be equivalent to arson, and with 20 more crimes to go, maybe there will be crimes more profitable than 1.0 hacking, this is just me getting my hopes up

it also might explain why ched left stocks 3.0 unchecked for so long, maybe he was waiting for crimes 2.0 to get going as a possible replacement for money generation, this is also me holding hopes up for it being all planned and it working out long term

probably not tho :(
