The question I'd ask myself is "Are voter ID's necessary for democracy to function at its very best?"

If the answer is no, then I wouldn't support them as they would to some extent make it harder to vote, reducing voter turnout. The more people that vote, the more effective democracy is.

If the answer is yes, then I'd only support voter ID's if they were freely available and easy to obtain, and only if democracy is somehow compromised without them.

oh yes the racism of voters ID cause minorities are having hard time obtaining it.. said from a brainwashed supporter of the liberal and democrat fanatics.

I’d like to see the need for it. As far as I’m aware there is only a minuscule amount of voter fraud in the past so making everyone’s life harder and the amount of expense doesn’t seem worth it.

1000% there should be ID required to vote.
Not only that, but voting shouldn't be age restricted and instead granted to those only who contribute to the society, IMO. (With certain exceptions).

You most certainly do.

The Constitution of the United Kingdom

And if you mean specifically the right to vote (quote from the wiki, not the actual constitution):
"After struggles for universal suffrage, the UK guaranteed every adult citizen over 21 years the equal right to vote in the Representation of the People (Equal Franchise) Act 1928."

xD

ID should be required but ID should Also be very easy to obtain....

And once you hit 80 you lose your right to vote im sick of old people voting for the tories :P (this is a joke)

What would you consider to be "contribute to society".

So if a 10 year old child gets a job as an actor and they pay tax, you'd allow them to vote?
Odin-All-Father [2010524]
If a 10 year old is earning enough to be paying tax whilst 40 year old Dave who chooses not to work because collecting the dole is easier, I’d rather the 10 year old vote, yes.

You damn sure should have to prove who you are, and that your a citizen in order to vote.

There are a plethora of reasons ID are necessary. Want to fly on an airline, cash a check, rent a car, apply for any social services, rent / buy a home, drive ( legally), rent a hotel room??? That’s just off the top of my head.

Anyone supposedly “ suppressed “ by an ID requirement have much greater issues to contend with like trying to function in society.
Unlucky [2472585]
I like how close you are to realising who in society doesn’t have an ID lol.

You are so close to seeing the problem.
ElHeffe [2564022]
That's a good point. However as I understand it, some types of ID are more acceptable than others.

https://newrepublic.com/article/119900/texas-voter-id-allows-handgun-licenses-not-student-ids

Places like Texas, a state at the forefront of trying to deny left of centre voters their rights, has some interesting ideas about what constitutes valid ID.

It's why I suspect the UK government will have the general election in the summer - to disenfranchise as many students as possible.

I don't care.

if you support voter ID, then you should support it being completely free, and have an automated system to get the ID out to every Citizen. Have fun with the technicalities, because a system like that, run by the government, is a f**king pipe dream. Billing (eg healthcare), sure, they know that shit like the back of their hand. Tracking every citizen, to the point that is needed with homelessness, nomads, and expats. Not to mention fresh 18 years olds, would be crazy to get public approval first, and be near technically impossible in the next 15 years. at least. Just look how long it took them to add a f**king barcode to some paper.

If you don't, then you should be supporting a robust system of checks and balances in the verification of the voting system. This means tracking every ballot mailed out, counting and scanning in return (already exists), ensuring susie q and bobbie q in a single household, actually came from them individually and not just bobbie q. ( the easist level of voter fraud), and then double verify (already exists) by an alternate group.

Personally I don't think it's worth the money or transition period (where voting security will be the weakest), but if it happens, you damn well recognize that people will be looking closely at the security and validity of the voterID system.

I shouldn't tell you this... but what the hell - no one will believe me.

I actually have worked as a DNC operative for the last 15 years. We've people on the inside of Smartmatic and Dominion and we rigged the shit out of the 2020 election. And we weren't even in power!

We've had the last 4 years to really lock down the systems. If you think Biden's win in 2020 was unbelievable - wait to see what we've got planned for this year.

I would actually suggest that people voting for Trump not turn up at all. We're going to turn your one vote for Trump into two for Biden!
