It's a Dune Helmet, it should protect you from getting sand in your eyes. It was obviously designed for desert warfare, so it's not that much of a stretch to say that it can protect from sand.  While the current argument is that it doesn't have goggles, I think that 1. Goggles against only sand should be added, and 2. No one in their right mind would send people into desert combat without sand protection.
