What are your guy's opinions on communism. I know it hasn't been the best *cough cough Stalin* throughout history, but I kind of feel it wasn't a full representation of what Communism could be. In fact, I find it hilarious how the same conservatives that complain about taxes, government, and the economy also hate communism. And all of this in my opinion, by the way, but what is so bad about sacrificing individual rights for the common good? Is it selfish to value oneself over others, or is it only self-preservation? The way I see it is the ship you are on is inking, and it is only a matter of time before everyone dies. Do you take a lifeboat all by yourself and have all the supplies to yourself- ultimately serving longer- or do you share the lifeboat with the other survivors. You may be unhappy. Perhaps one of the other passengers is rude, stinks, or is unpleasant. Not only do you have to endure an uncomfortable final days, but those final days would be cut short with other survivors needing food and rations. Again, just my opinion. What do you guys think? I would love to hear your thoughts.

I think communism will only work in a post scarcity world. Basically the luxury space communism model but not sarcastically. At the moment socialist policies in a capitalist world make sense to me as a bridge. - Collete [1389080]

Communism, like fascism, destroys the individual. Maybe this argument isn't compelling to you, though, if you think fascism has also gotten a bad rap and never had a chance to really shine?
Unbridled, unregulated capitalism creates a lot of the same problems, but at least the country keeps running with that system in place. There do need to be more checks and balances on it, because we're starting to see corporations achieve the same kinds of power that dictators enjoy.

Can I ask what you mean by this, I don’t think I’ve ever heard this argument before
Op acknowledged it above. The individual is subsumed into the state. You become a cog in the machine. Look at the "art" produced in the U.S.S.R. Your property is not your own, your talents are not your own, etc. Maybe this wasn't part of Marx's scheme—I haven't read the Manifesto—but it certainly was part of the reality —I'm (slowly) working my way through the Gulag Archipelago.
Maybe it’s a part of my expectations on a utopic communism post scarcity but I think if we get there it will allow more individualism. As in more time to be creative and expressive.
However I concede in the current system it’s not realistic at all.

but lenin digress.
An idea in theory can be good, but if it fails in practice, that can render the idea to be a poor one.
Do we really need to look further than Mao Zedongs China to observe how the idea of "liberating the poor" actually led to mass starvation, economic hardship, and particular suffering for rural peasants.
"Self-sacrifice" also equated to a systematic execution of the Cossacks, a liquidation of their assets, the seizing of their land, and utilizing it for agriculture in Stalins Russia.
I don't think we ever see communism practiced in the spirit of the actual theory.

Yeah I feel like on paper, the manifesto is great. It's just us as human beings that inevitably f**k everything up
Just like every other political system, Communism cannot work in the real world.
It's a theoretical model that depends on two things:
1. everyone wants to be a communist.
2. there is no corruption anywhere.
Just like "that's not real capitalism" or "that's not real socialism" or "that's not real libertarianism", the real world gets in the way.
Want to see the counter example? Meet me back here in 3 years time and we'll take a look at Argentina.

Communism is the biggest threat to world peace, and should be treated like the evil that it is.
The useful idiots of the internet have been played like pawns in its slight revival over the past decade. Like cows thinking the slaughterhouse isn't that bad.

Just another name for fascism. It is literally the same as Hitler, Mussolini, Pinochet or the Brazilian junta. For the fascist it doesn't matter what the justification for his tyranny is, as long as he is in power.
Interesting. Fascism and communism are two political ideologies that have some similarities and many differences. Both systems seek to create a utopian society by controlling the masses and imposing a strong central government. However, they differ in their views on class, property, ethnicity, and leadership.
Some of the main similarities and differences between fascism and communism are:
Some of the main similarities and differences between fascism and communism are:
- Class: Communism advocates for a classless society, where everyone is equal and has the same access to resources. Fascism maintains a rigid class hierarchy, where the elite rule over the masses and exploit their labor.
- Property: Communism abolishes private property and replaces it with common ownership of the means of production. Fascism allows for private property, but only as long as it serves the interests of the state and the nation.
- Ethnicity: Communism promotes equality and internationalism, and rejects any form of discrimination based on race, religion, or nationality. Fascism promotes the superiority and purity of one ethnic or racial group, and often engages in persecution and genocide of the others.
- Leadership: Communism promotes a one-party state, where the party represents the will of the proletariat and the dictatorship of the people. Fascism emphasizes national unity and loyalty to a charismatic leader, who has absolute authority and often uses propaganda and terror to maintain power.
It is ultimately a fantasy. It's implausible to say what would or would not be in a "communist society", as in the end it's pure theory. Any attempt to be concrete would be a lie.
What it ultimately represents is an ideal, a goal, an endpoint. Something to build society towards, for its own betterment, where even if somehow the imagined perfect beliefs of whatever communism is supposed to be don't come to fruition, still perhaps a fairer world comes about. Where society is ruled by an ideology focused on constant structural betterment and uplifting, rather than anarchic survival of the fittest attitudes that amount to rats fighting rats.
The profit motive has proven to be insufficient at adequately providing the vast majority of people a fulfilling and healthy life. Only "communists" have an ideology that actually confronts this force currently, whereas the "liberal" ideologies only modulate or "incentivize" a slightly less rapacious enabling of the profit motive as they fully acquiesce to the supposedly irreproachable capitalists for their very survival as candidates in Western democracies.
In the world we live in today, at the very least capitalists must be subservient to an ideology like communism, that forces them to provide for the people rather than just gamblers, and uses the power of capital in a focused charge towards a structure that could one day allow for some type of "communism" to possibly exist.
As for communism and what I think of it?

Because two fascist groups cannot coexist and they are both willing to use force to achieve political success. They can just trample everyone else, but a rival fascist will put up a fight. Also, everything you mentioned about differences is just dressing. You talk about how fascism is concerned about a charismatic leader and communism around the party, but look at how stalin, mao, fidel ruled. They were the party. You talk about communism is supposed to be progressive, but stalin certainly didn't treat every ethnicity in the USSR equally.
The core of fascist philosophy is "everything within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state". This is the only thing that matters, everything else is just an excuse to justify tyranny.

Ok, so first of all, I see both the strengths and especially the weaknesses of a capitalist system that communism is trying to fix here. So in a capitalist system, in the name of profits, the companies do not really treat the workers well or give them a lot of money, but in a capitalist system, leaders who have the leadership skills who can successfully run a business and organize labor and keep everything running smoothly, gets aid more and takes more of the profits for doing that, so if you take that away, and instead the the workers seize the means of production, I do not know if so many people can self-organize efficiently to keep the business running. I am not saying that such a system is impossible and will never work, but it will be very hard to create and maintain a business that runs like this. Also a lot of businesses make a lot of money and profit, while other business, especially when they are still small, struggle to break even, and will be forced to cut costs to stay afloat, because resources cost money, and that is what sucks about the economy and about this world. I want to live in a perfect world where everybody gets what they need, but unfortunately that is not the world that we live in, because again resources are limited and they cost money. Also the idea of a classless society where everybody gets what they need is appealing to the majority of people living in poverty, but I am not sure if that is a good idea or not because you are taking form people to give to other people, and that could be seen as unfair by the people who worked very hard to earn that money and resources to just take it away form them like that. I don't think communism is the solution to all problems here-like for one thing its a bit extreme, and I don't think there is a good solution at this point, including our current system of capitalism. Resources are limited and hard to get, and we need labor, people need stuff but they don't like working, and communism cannot get around this.
I think communism will only work in a post scarcity world.
we are already there, it is artificial scarcity, that gives the capitalist system its power

why cant we give the homeless, some of the wasted food/empty homes?
that would be socialism/communism they cry
this is while simultaneously reeing about famine etc starving people hundreds of years ago, while their own people starve and are made homeless by a system they actively support and endorse
got people working three jobs and having to live in their cars
like honestly the cognitive dissonance is wild
