This is going over my personal favorite indie horror game of all time, kind of an appreciation post if you want to call it that, and I'm about to full blown wall of text so if you like reading then have fun.
In Monstrum you have to escape a ship while being pursued by one of three monsters,
The Brute is the poster boy of the game, he runs just slightly slower than the player and ignores doors while in chase so outrunning him is often better than finding a place to hide, unless you run into a dead end of course.
His footsteps are LOUD and can often be confused for him being on the floor above you, and he's immune to the flare gun, but if you like earning achievements go ahead and shoot him with it.
The Hunter was the second monster added, and she's the ambush predator of the three, her skin is translucent and her frame is almost skeletal so she's able to hide in the darkness and wait for the player to come by. Her main method of finding you is waiting for you to make noise, after which shell pop out from a vent thats nearby and start chase. Her main method of traveling is also the vents, as if you go from one side of the ship to the other you'll hear her nearby in a matter of seconds.
She's vulnerable to fire, needing to return to a vent after getting burned before being able to chase again.
Lastly she can set up egg sacs that basically act like a spawnpoint that she can burst from if you get too close, some are active and some aren't you really can't tell so passing by them are gambles. Since it can traverse vents it can also traverse other parts of the ship others can't, like crawling up the side of the ship to take a shortcut if your doing something like interacting with the crane. Her footsteps are squishy and slappy but not as loud as the Brutes.
The last monster added is the Fiend, for lack of a better term, he's a paralysis demon, able to stun you if your in his line of sight too long. He floats around so he doesn't have footsteps and the only way to tell if he's near is if the lights start flickering, which includes your flashlight which is a necessity especially in low light areas like the cargo hold. You can also hear a buzzing noise when he's nearby but only within 15 ft or so and this can be heard on multiple floors, as for the lights they won't flicker unless he's on the same floor so running up staircases is pretty dangerous against him. And lastly he seems to be the smartest of the three, able to know when he's been tricked into a room.
Now the scape routes,
The liferaft is the easiest to do, since its first objective is always completed for some reason, it only needs duct tape, a pump, and a spool of chain for the crane. Its loud to move the crane and there's only a few ways off the deck with no way to stop the monster so this is the most dangerous escape.
The Helicopters items are somewhat difficult to find, you'll need boltcutters, two cans of fuel, and Helicopter keys, after getting all of them you'll have to let it refuel which is made easy by the two open steam valves you can utilize to keep the monster at bay, its the funnest route imo.
And lastly the sub, you'll need a sub battery, sub light, welding kit, and a fuse to power the console so you can start the launch sequence and once you do the three power locked doors will close and your locked in until you can escape, your given a cart to push in front of the doors (or vents if its a Hunter) to prevent them front getting in to kill you, this and the Helicopter both have a 'Stand your ground' section which i really like.
Those are just the basics, which to be fair this game doesn't have a lot of content, its almost a 10 yr old game that unfortunately got left to the wayside after its sequel went into development and flopped sometime after some time, but it still remains a game I heavily enjoy playing.
