I had over 10 pickpocketing before I stopped playing last night. I get up and now it's reset.

Not a huge loss of skill...but if this happens later on, it could be alot worse.

Any idea how thos happened? What can I do to prevent it?

Every time you have a critical fail (red), your skill goes down. Check your logs, you probably had multiple. Stick with an easier crime first.
