My dad really struggles to understand how players can fight one another in Torn when one player is offline, btw

Before i even bother anymore with people i'm more acquainted with than friends with -- if i bring up torn i'm like "so, there's this game i've been playing for close to a year now, before i go further, how much do you like gaming and how much do u like reading?" --- depending on those answers i either try further or pass, not worth the time anymore. My best online friend for the past 15 years, i got to play for a bit on here then he went back to playing playstation games saying it didn't have enough action for him... sadness.
