We run training competitions within our faction with prizes for the top 3 gainers. Its done on a % increase using Torn Stats, But it seems to be favouring the lower stats players, for example It's easier for a player on 10k stats to gain 10k (100%) Than it is for a player on 1mil stats to gain 1mil.
Do any other factions run similar competitions and have any fairer ways of doing it?
For a training competition, you could run it based on energy spent in the gym rather than the result? There isn't a totally 'fair' route, otherwise you may as well split the prizes evenly amongst everyone.
Sure, until you OD a couple of times :) Energy spent in gym is the go-to option imo. Completely fair independent of your stats, can also split by people using Cans / FHCs and the ones only using Xanax if you have a heavy financial disparity.

Use the faction's API. You can track all kinds of things, E used, Xanax used, Energy Refills, ect.
Our faction does monthly reports and averages things out and weighs different elements to produce a score. The score carries forward from month to month for our prizes, once you pass a threshold you get a prize and get reset back to zero.
Our reports are shared via Newsletter at the end of each month via a Google Doc's sheet. It's a pretty good system.
(It'll also help you see who is massively underperforming and may need some motivation or just straight up removal)
There are only player API keys. To have a player API key with faction permissions, this player has to have that permission given to them by the leader/co-leader by creating a new rank and assigning that rank Faction API permissions. You don't want to give Faction API perms to everyone in your faction.
Just to echo what has already been said. Do it by e spent on all stats trained. Yata makes this easy ish. Start reports for each Stat for e spent. At the end of the comp do the same thing that way it's equal for everyone
Faction > perks list > when you click on steadfast, you should be able to see the amount of energy spent within a given fighting stat. (And/Or it may also give energy spent in gym in general)
Can pull an CSV / excel file, then pull the same data next week, and compare the amount of energy spent.
Haven't been a leader for like a few years, but that's how I remember doing it before yata.
Like one competition for users with 0 total stats to 100k total stats.
Another competition from 100k total stats to 500k total stats.
Another competition from 500k total stats to 1m total stats.
Made up numbers, you probably know how to better split your members based on their stats
---
Keep in mind that 2 users with the same stats, if one spend 1000 e on a happy jump with 5k happiness and other spend money to do a 99k happiness jump you shouldn't reward them the same, IMO
After years and years I've given up on the idea for training comps.
First, it often just turns into an OD comp more often than anything else. Hard to overcome an OD or two, and that's outside your control.
Second, if not an OD comp, it's a NW or JP comp. If you have the NW and want to win, just slam FHCs or high end cans. Or if you're in a company with E as a perk, just start exchanging JP every day. Or if you have enough lead time, get a block or three of MCS. Or if you really offer too much reward, use Ugly Energy and a pile of FHCs and have 2500E a day to crush the comp with.
And if you just go on percent, that works until some jerk pulls something like this: You used a Skateboard increasing your speed by 30,001,676.28 to 3,030,169,304.92.
Stats are important. But more important is being able to do something with those stats. We have lots of low stat people that regularly out-hit, out-work, and out-earn people with 4x-5x their stats. So I'd much rather run a competition about *using* stats, rather than *gaining* them.
There are lots of dinosaurs with piles of stats that have never done anything with them. The best thing you can do for your faction is getting them active and hitting. Do something with those stats! Put the time in to accomplish something as a faction. Steal a territory, raid someone, smash some enemies, run some mug chains, do some RWs, etc.
And the big secret with getting your folks doing something is that when they suck, when they lose 4 times in a row, when they have to keep asking for help, they will WANT to train. They will WANT to get better. They will WANT to put the time and money into training. And that's far, far more powerful than just throwing them some xanax for doing what they should be doing anyway.
Very true. We have taken inspiration from this post and are going to run competitions.
People will earn points based on energy used at the gym but also gain points for war hits, and half points for chain hits.
So, someone could earn lots of points smashing FHCs but someone could also earn lots of points by participating in RWs.
Also, it depends on the prize. If it's just a token prize like 50m it won't be enough to make people want to use FHCs but it will be enough to encourage people to train etc instead of selling losses, bounty hunting or mugging (unless they're really good at mugging.)
