Buymugs are just a skill issue.
Also, are you completely sure that they are related events? I've seen that people sometimes camp those with lots on their bazaar, so when they sell, the one who is camping mugs, gets the money, and doesn't have to deal with the hassle of reselling the items. I think that them being in the same faction is very suspicious, so it was most likely coordinated, but you never know. I'd message them to ask for now :)
Edit: It was revealed that the attack was started before the items were bought. This was most definitely a buymug, watch out for them I guess.

This wasn't a trade mug, you were selling on the open market and let yourself go inactive outside of hosp.

“Helper” can’t even help yourself mate. The mug was 10 seconds after the first guy, that’s a slow ass buy mug, we’ll have a debrief and do better
