Hi All,
We have looked at a fair few HAR files from this. We have significantly increased the amount of logging we have in our control from requests before they hit our infrastructure, which helps dig into this stuff. So far, the HAR files i've reviewed all show connection problems between a user and Cloudflare's closest datacenter. Cloudflare is one of, if not the, best connected CDN providers we could have chosen but from time to time folks may have problems between their ISP and cloudflare that are solved by VPNs (which hit another cloudflare POP). Additionally, we are using Cloudflare's 'managed challenge' feature to protect TORN against DDOS attacks that are a sad reality for us - these will sometimes create problems though we have a bit more ability to make changes here if we have clear evidence of specific problems.
If somebody can reproduce this please can you email a sanitised HAR file to alex@torn.com? Please also run the https://speed.cloudflare.com/ at the same time and export the results as a PDF to send. Finally, please try to see if running the free cloudflare VPN (https://one.one.one.one/) on your device makes the problem better or worse.
Thanks!

No change on using the Cloudflare VPN for me. Same issues, at the same rates, as using a different VPN, or none at all.
Been having this issue the last week VPN doesn't seem to fix
Update/nvm: mine was working a few days, but now i can't use the site 20seconds today without needing to close and re-open the browser.
i hope it gets fixed soon.

Torn uses ipv4, I'm connected to Cloudflare speedtest in ipv6. I don't think the speedtest will be helpful as I have over 400 mbps down and up with less than 6ms latency and 2ms jitter and 0% packet losses.
However, I still experience the connection loss on Torn.
The requests seems to be getting picked up by Torn's server because my status is still online according to the API even after getting stuck at loading Torn's page for more than 10 minutes.
The problem seems to be me not being able to receive response from Cloudflare so the network requests are stuck in pending state when it's not working.

I'm feeling torn slower lately too.
Both in the PC browser and in the mobile browser.

It's always "time out" after every 10-30mins, which block me from trading as I usually leave a page on bazaar so I can close it quick after med out. Time out force me to close the browser and open again to "reset" the timeout to be able to play normal, which lead to that page become hospital page
I was recommended the Cloudflare WARP VPN about a week or so ago. It does not completely fix the problem, but I can simply toggle it on or off (whichever was the case when the timeout starts) and it will resolve usually within a few seconds instead of waiting 5-10 minutes for it to come back.
It's just a band-aid at this point, but it has allowed me to at least function "mostly" normally while this issue has been ongoing.

like jose said, you can send data, but not receive it.
I usually have to close my browser and re-open it when it starts messing up.
but what ever action i do as it messes up "use an item" "attack" once i pull the game back up from it not loading, that action/item was completed. if it gets stuck while making a forum post, it still post too.
And if the pages is stuck loading, if my faction chat is up or something. i'm still able to communicate.
what ever changes you made last week didn't completely fix it. theres still times where it's unusable, usually around the same times everyday.
but instead of it consistently messing up, no matter what time it was(like a month of it being like that) the last 8-9 days has had a few good days with no issues, and the other days have been bearable. i think there was only 2days were the site seemed completely unusable(messing up within 30seconds of restarting my browser).

I may be reading into this a little bit but it's sort of sounding like a 'there's not a lot we can do' response.
These problems are getting worse and worse. In our most recent war every single leader of my faction was impacted (where it used to only be me).
Trying to catch retals, chain save or just get out of hospital and make an attack is near impossible.
Getting a VPN isn't a practical solution either because cloudfare constantly basically disconnects you and asks you to verify that you're a human, often after you're just trying to do an attack too. (I assume this is because my IP is with a whole bunch of others on the VPN).
We really need a solution to this because this is becoming unplayable, literally had a chain drop because the one person who was in a position to save it had this issue present itself and couldn't get a workaround before the chain dropped.

I recall seeing this behavior on other cloudflare sites, just... less obvious. We are very addicted to this website.
I completely appreciate that, just pointing out that this can't be just left as a bit of a 'it sucks but not much we can do' thing.
It's not even a case of being addicted either. It's not like it's slightly inconvenient, there are very time sensitive mechanics included in this game and it is becoming nearly impossible to take part in them.

kinda the impression i got too.
1. cloudflare is looking into it.
2. cloudflare couldn't be bothered to get to it before the hars expired
3. requesting more hars
4. cloudflare is looking into it.
5. davvz says " now torn devs are looking into it" while saying it's the best option as a provider, and basically saying the problem is on cloudflares end, while repeating troubleshooting steps that most people said didn't work a month ago.
i think it is a (it sucks but not much we can do thing) most similar issues posted on the cloudflare community site is responded to by staff saying "wait it out" it will eventually fix itself.

Hello all,
Its pretty clear there is no single cause of this from the HAR files I have, but we have made some further changes that we think reduce the number of connections each browser makes (by fixing/improving cache headers for files that dont change). We also turned off HTTP/3 for TORN. The header change took some time to fully apply, but should be applied everywhere now - I am curious how folks find things from about now-ish.
One thing that we have noticed is that some (but certainly not all) of this is caused by many tabs running. Each tab has 2 connections to the main TORN domain, and browsers have limits on the number of connections they make. If you are seeing this, please check that you do not have lots of tabs open and try to reproduce the problem in a different browser if possible.
Clearly, for those users who do have a ISP that has a rubbish connection to cloudflare we are not going to be able to totally fix this, but hopefully we can help make it better! We thank you all for your patience.

Hi Alex,
Thanks for the response. I can confirm that for me it definitely is more prevalent when I've got multiple tabs open, probably why I end up having a lot of issues in Ranked Wars.
You mentioned that the browsers themselves have limits, but I know I've definitely had waaaay more browser tabs open in the past.
Could Cloudfare or the DDOS protection be misinterpreting a single device having lots of open connections and closing them down?

Little_Naz: we are very confident this is not DDOS blocking. Most of the HAR files we have show requests in a 'blocked' state which is the local browser blocking and we have logs on the cloudflare side that clearly show that once the requests folk are complaining about make it there they are very fast.
Its possible that we have changed something that is tripping the browser limits more than in the past - that bit isnt really super obvious to me. Its also possible its something out of our control (e.g. torntools type extensions are used by many users and count towards the browser limits).
If it makes you feel better, here is a bug report with Google engineers complaining about this limit in Chrome: https://issues.chromium.org/issues/40180988. Chrome have made their limit a bit larger since then, but with many tabs (each doing multiple websocket connections and many HTTP requests) its not hard to imagine that we are hitting into this.

Thanks Alex. Really appreciate the time you and the team have taken to look into this. Fingers crossed my Ranked War this weekend goes a little better :)
I don't want to jinx anything, but I've been completely free of all they symptoms of this issue for about 2 days now. Even testing it out with opening more tabs than I would normally have open it's still working as well as it was before this all started. Whatever changes you made, it seems that, fingers crossed, you've fixed it.
