I'm a relatively new player to torn, only joining late last year. I've seen news articles about factions fighting, one pulling out of the other. I would appreicate a brief history or summary of the history of torn, specifically the factions but could be anything surrounding the game as well.

It's pretty important for factions to pull out. Otherwise you end up with massive circle-jerk alliances.

I'll suggest you take a look at the Hall Of Fame (HOF) where you can find out some ranking and how much respect all factions in TC have. Otherwise, the forum is plenty of readable contents related to factions and other interesting stuff which is the best oneself can take a look at.

I thought we were having steamed clams!
Factions are stale with all of the buttkissing and palm greasing. If you don't pay your obesience, you have no tt's. If you don't fight when told to do so, you have no tt's. If told to jump and you fail to, you have no tt's. If you wish to remain neutral, you have no tt's. You either pick a side and take and catch flack by oodles of people for picking the wrong side no matter what side you choose. It's a war game. You build your stats to fight. Get used to it. Even revivers fight with exception of the elite few who dedicate their reviving career to reviving. But it's safe to say, fighting is the nature of the game. It's not a short game but rather one that takes years to find ones niche.
Enjoy the long game. Enjoy finding what works for you.
