tl;dr version: Public live attack feed for ranked wars. See pic below.

I really enjoy ranked warring and I feel it would be fun to watch a good quality war where both factions are giving it all they've got. Currently all we can see is just some numbers going up and down. Would be nice to see the live attack logs publicly as soon as the attacks are done.

Something like this perhaps-

Pros-
1. This wouldn't require much development time as this attack feed is already available in their own factions under the "Attacking" tab.
2. This would really make ranked warring a spectacle. People gonna stay online to watch. Would perhaps even increase overall activity of torn. It gives us something to do while traveling. :p
3. It brings that much more strategy into ranked warring. Your opponents can see your previous wars in detail. They know who your active players are, how you push, when you push etc etc.

Cons-
1. It could be abusable with mercs attacking and holding the player who's doing a lotta attacks during a push. But I feel with ED and now the 60 second timer it's just not that effective. Or maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, if this is a concern, then maybe a 10 minute delayed attack feed?

Probably a good idea to pull off the [view] if implemented though. Free (relative) stat spy!

I'd be happy with no names shown too, just seeing the activity would be exciting.  Currently just get to watch the numbers/graph change.

I think the idea is great, but would hide names imo, so "some one attacked someone" I don't often watch others wars but been able to view like this would be awesome

Maaaaaaybe its just my special brain here but any one think it would be nice to have a small pixel sprite for each player in torn to customise or whatever. i mean it would require all the warable and holdabel items to be made into pixel sprite animations things...

BUTT...

i cant be the only one that thinks it would be a cool thing to see a live action of our sprites attacking eachother and such in live action on the screen, if ytou choose to watch it, as you said its just numbers and only thoise who can interpret that dats on a meaningful level would enjoy it, and even then probably a smaller % would for lack of a better term get off on it as a sport almost.

this is just my idea/ 2pence to add a sprite system for us, i know its too much work and i know it filled with more issues than is practical for our text game here :)

id love a mini sprite torn gangster that i could cloth and arm, maybe what them flying on a little pixel plane during the flight screen, instead of the image we have currently of the plane with a banner of wherever your going on and the little torn quote, maybe do a flappy bird mini game where you can just fly up n down for hours collecting $1 at a time or dodging obsticles, who knows you could even get the torn community involved to help on the project..

torn has a dedicated playerbase and a substantial loyalty from players, everyone loves doing events, you got artists, mathematisions, buisness savey people. i bet police, fireman, other game devs, coders, programmers and all sorts of people playing torn and the devs could do a whole event like project over however long it takes to finish, well need pixel artists, well need coders, well need all kinds ofhelp to get the sprite project going and done.

im sick of seeing a picture of a plane when flying, flappy bird style pixel sprite that i can control during boring flight times, if i want to dodge badly made obsticles for 3.5hrs so be it :P

anyway thats my small idea for the combat system to make it more fun and interesting to watch, watch as your sprite hurls a flashbang at the enemy.

watch as your sprite chokes on tear gass and collapses when the enemy follows up with a melee strike.

watch as the molotov your sprite threw smashes on the enemy leader and burns him to a crisp while you fire from your position.

all these and more if the idea is actuelly investigated but i fear it will just stay in my head :) enjoy and vote up :P

The idea is interesting, and can see the appeal, yet real-time doesn't feel right, unsure why given my answers below, yet somehow it doesn't.

I'd perhaps opt for a "TV highlights" approach. So once the war is finished, or perhaps on some kind of delay (15/30/60mins), you can watch it play out, attack by atatck, perhaps with a speed adjustment, so you can fast forward  or skip turtling phases.

As for the Names / Someone debate, not sure this matters, there are plenty of API tools that already track activity and attacks etc. So whilst it may be difficult using these tools to recreate a war, without the 2x faction APIs, i dare say its highly probable it can already be done, if someone really wanted to do it.

This is in part why id suggest only a short delay, as people worried about mercs hitting active players, probably miss the point most serious mercs already have the tools to do this.

Hope this helps move the suggestion along for you OP.

this would be great but seeing how much ched opposed chain reports being live for reasons (backing down only after some forum hooplah), i'm worried he'd likely feel the same here

BurstBoy [3173749]

Public live attack feed for bounties too - Torn advertisement had a banner showing people getting attacked

Tahrok [3136546]

Can you follow up on this with a link to his views on the chain reports being live/public? I'm curious for the reasons he fought it.

Robbo [1826175]

attacks used to be publicly visible when the new attacking system first launched, but were changed to being hidden due to people abusing it.

trust me, you don't want this

ZackyAnarchy [3046742]

I could get behind this, even add a bookie to it so bets can be made on favorite faction to win, with added side bets on hits, points, etc..

Pink_Penguin [2233311]

While a few people might actually watch this for purely entertainment purposes, I think a lot more would use it as a way to gather free intel on factions, peak activity times, who are their heavy hitters, what kind of strategies do the use, do they turtle up or all out brawl, do they hire mercs or use an associated faction. And whatever other conclusions that can be milked from such readily available information will be exploited to the maximum.

Even with anonymous member names and a time delay, it wouldn't take a genius to figure out who's hitting who, and a time delays can be compensated for.

Overall this is not necessarily a bad idea, there's just too much room for abuse
