I read an article on the recent event that has has f**ked over many citizens in Torn. In that artlicle I found a horrendous section that I can't forgive.

Torn City Times | What's The Point? | Friday, May 31, 2024

how DARE you slander Runescape and compare it to Torn!!!!! Runescape is NOTHING like Torn. Here are some examples.

1) If you grind hard and put in the time you can catch up to the top. You can fight the same bosses as them, Beat them in PVP, Train your skills the same as them. In Torn, catching up is impossible. It will never happen no matter how many years you put in. Yes i'm new, and I've made my peace with that because the games are different.

2) Jagex doesn't f**k their new players growth over unlike Torn. Infact, over the years, Runescape has made changes to make grinding easier for new players so they can catch up quicker to the old ones who put in much more effort.

3) RUNESCAPE ISN'T TEXT BASED. 😡

What the Article states isn't what happened. Allow me to enlighten you. 😊😊😊

Gold farming bots flooded the game when Jagex stopped caring about their players, and more about their pockets. (sounds familiar🤔)  The bots didn't just farm bosses, or crafting. They botted EVERYTHING. Players grew tired of having to compete with 100 different bots for one magic tree (as an example) and began to quit. Soon, Runescape was on its last legs. No one wanted to buy currency for a DEAD GAME from the gold farmers... so they, and their paid memberships started to move elsewhere... Jagex was left with an empty shell of what was once a great game. The #1 game of it's kind in the world. The vast majority of players had left, along with the gold farmer's bots. So what did Jagex do?

🤔🤔🤔❓❓

Jagex began listening to the tiny player base and started banning bots (like their players begged for for YEARS) and tried to revive their game. In the end... They succeeded.💯 Runescape is growing strong. Do you know what Jagex does now.....??????? what they make a priority???

🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

LISTENING TO AND SEEKING FEEDBACK FROM THEIR PLAYERBASE!!!!!!!!!😡😡😡😡😡

Ched WISHES he was like Jagex, Wishes Torn was as successful as Runescape. But Torn will never be Runescape 😔😔😔

If you really want to use Runescape in comparisson to Torn then you should understand how the game works and it's history. Because it appears as though you have no idea.

Instead of removing money making features, they add more ways to spend money!🤯🤯🤯

They tax accordingly to help with inflation. 🙂  In Runescape, if you die with end game items you pay end game tax, if you die as a new player, you pay new player tax (basically nothing). You can still get rich as an end game player though.

Runescape has balanced the game like many players have requested.

They add multiple things within a year to keep people engaged.

The lack of communication in Torn isn't beneficial for players or staff.

What's the purpose of this...?

Or this...!

Or this...!?

If you won't use them to engage with your players?

Phew... those images are scary... 😨

I play Torn, and enjoy playing Torn because the two games are fundamentally different. If Torn was anything like Runescape it would be dead because of the difference in the quality of management. I don't want to see this game die so please learn from Jagex's past mistakes. Start addressing issues now, and listening to your community, instead of waiting until the bitter end to improve. Because this game isn't Runescape, there's no content to come back to. Once people leave they'll be gone for good.

I still won't forgive Jagex after Ace of Spades. Funorb... eh, flash was dying. But hey, it at least shows that sometimes, people can pull themselves out of a completely ruined state if they look at the actual problems (I'm more looking at Valve than Ched on this issue in particular). Torn still has time before getting that bad. But it's like comparing an end point to a trajectory and not realizing the difference is time. And I doubt points change will kill Torn, but every cut needs some form of treatment to heal properly.

Edit: kinda realized I am not thinking properly, and probably phrased this wrong at the near end. It's actively against inflation, a problem that hit RS hard, while Torn is actually fighting it. It's more an issue of what this could do to the playerbase, and the way cash flows through it.

Runescape is ruined for me... i played for several years about a decade ago --- my dad had played for about 15 years and I played it to talk to him more as he lived in another state. He passed in Feb of 2020 from lung cancer. Tried to sign in a few times and just end up really sad.

Cool story, also runescape did suck at managing money and lost control of their economy.  It then followed that they did a huge number of knee-jerk reactions that nearly completely killed their game.

Article is valid.

I was actually thinking about Runescape's economy compared to Torn's after the update dropped and thought about the parallels between points and leather chaps

Nico [2506152]

the best comparation is alchemy, alot of things would be worth close to nothing if it wasnt for that artificial value

RonBurgundy [71545]

The purpose of the Committee is for the main factions in the game to get pre-release disclosure of changes.

The real art is not getting fedded when using that info, like Midknight and Z.

I don't think you read the article. They didn't compare Torn to Runescape. However, both are MMORPGs.

They simply gave an example of another game that opened too many faucets and as you said, the player base died.

They're explaining that they're trying to solve this issue proactively, instead of after everyone has left
