Before I type this all out I just want to say that I'm fully aware that some crybabies will hate on me writing my opinions here, but I'm so delighted by this update that I do not really care about that, and it's not because I have any idea what is the best financial long term option for Torn (like many of the "experts" I see raging on about this) but because for once it is something affecting everyone and not just exclusivly the older players who has painstakingly paved the roads for everyone coming after. Newer players have no idea how easy they have it, it's a complete joke to see all the entitlement going around.

Veterans of the game have been shafted countless times by various updates, and for better or worse that is just a part of the game, in fact it is a long standing tradition aptly called chedding, and if you can make it long enough you will become immune to it. I kind of view it as a culling ritual of sorts. Some of those changes makes this one look like a nice sunday picnic..

Threathening to leave the game? Fine. Might be for the best, you won't make it in the long run unless you get over this...

Muckamuck [1884573]

i mean, yeah. i've had a significant parts of my gameplay majorly disrupted due to unannounced changes by ched at least a few times over the years; the colloquial 'chedded'

i don't like it but i'm used to the abuse by now 🥲

Sephiroth [5918]

I disagree. Most vets keep quiet to themselves to not have to deal with the drama, but I do not mind representing those voices on this matter.

Could have posted in the 1 major thread on this.

Could have posted in the multitude of other threads on this same topic.

But I suppose you need your own thread to feed your own ego.

Classic.

Yes older players may have been shafted countless times, but they have also been able to  abuse take advantage of countless money making loopholes that have exisited over the years.

Sephiroth [5918]

Yeah, there has been times I got upset by that too and it never sat right with me, but I got over it. Personally I've avoided all such loopholes every single time, and tbf most others have as well. Those you are talking about are less than 10% of the oldies, knowing or unknowingly, and even fewer are still around to play the game.

Wait?  What?

In my other browser game I'm a top 100 globally ranked legacy player but that game restarts every 3 months and I can only take one item and the premium pay to win currency with me to the next game.   So in that game there is a RESET and long-time players only get a small cumulative advantage.  Active new players actually have a shot.

You are telling me how much easier active newer players have it but I don't think so.   Your stats aren't 10 times better than mine, they are likely well more than 100 times better than mine and might be 1000 times better.   I will NEVER catch up as long as we are both active.  Same for networth assuming you aren't a heavy gambler.    You my high-level powerful friend, can log in and do literally NOTHING and collect stock block bonuses, 10* oil rig employee payments, maxed bank interest, rented PI payments, etc etc etc    All of which adds massive amounts of cash to the system; that dreaded inflation this poorly thought out change is supposed to address.   With a modicum of activity you can command even more income from mercenary activities, ranked wars, owning that 10 oil rig, RW weapon sales, high level RWs, etc etc etc

We hear about the good old days when players could pool cash together and make crazy interest on it.

So much passive income going to the already wealthy for merely existing and Torn decides that the one cash input to attack is lower-level active players who are flying?   You can literally sit back, log in, post on the forum and rake in 10s of millions a day, or more, of passive income for doing nothing.  I'm flying, most of the game is locked out for me right now, and I have to actively actually do something to get paid.

the price is dropping due to panic, not the change. You can still make more flying than most of the 5-number ID folks when they were your age.

Sephiroth [5918]

So what I get from what you are saying here is that because your other p2w premium currency quarterly wipe game lets you hit the leaderboards it automatically makes Torn bad and that you are entitled to more. Sounds like two different games, doesn't it.

I know of plenty players with a quarter of my play time who have far surpassed me, and others just like them in the making. If you are activly attempting to make money in this game you will surpass all passive income players given time. Like yeah, there is almost no chance for any player to pass a 20 year old account in less than a year, but given time and effort you certainly can. The only ones who cannot be realisticly surpassed by 99.99% of players are the ones who have taken advantage of game weaknesses in the past. But guess what, I can never surpass or come remotely close to them as well.

You can't just sit on your butt to fly

One of the main "costs" of flying is that it locks players out most of the game.   We can't even play poker while in the air.   We can't look at the auction house, we can't look at the item markets, we can't do crimes.

Another cost is that being mugged is much more likely while abroad and to mitigate that risk, players have to actively get their goods and get back in the air ASAP.   Again, they have to DO SOMETHING instead of just sit on their butts and click on their stock blocks once a week/month.

Get sloppy abroad and players can get stuck in the hospital with no faction armory to med out quickly with.

For these and more reasons, many of the higher level players in my faction no longer fly.   It isn't worth it for them as they can make much more from other sources including passive sit on their butts income that does not require them to leave Torn, miss out on most of the game and incur additional risks.

Torn chose to limit a very specific cash input that primarily only affects newer players while leaving massive passive income sources alone.   YMMV but I think that is a poor decision in a game where newer players will never catch up to active older players as it is.

The Pawn Shop was a huge SINK for points, removing them from the system and lowering available supply.   Players could safely sell to the Pawn Shop and be 100% certain that their sale would not be public so they would not be buy mugged, so it was a great option for many and even the newspaper acknowledges how many points that sink absorbed.

The supply of points is about the same but now one source of considerable demand has been removed, economics 101 suggests a price drop and that is exactly what we are seeing.

If nothing else changes and this is just a panic, then the prices will rebound, right?  I doubt that is going to happen.   MAYBE if Torn creates more uses for points the prices will go back to 45k (the bare minimum before) but if they don't, with a major source of demand removed, I doubt we will see 45k points again unless there is an island war or some other temp demand spike.

SaintLuke [2220265]

Consider this, you could still sell them for a whopping 45k each, no one's holding you back. If others try to undercut you, employ the same tactics used in other scenarios-buy them out, mug them, or even put a bounty on them. Make it clear that undercutting is not a profitable move. And if you're looking for a mug-free option, hone your skills.

I do believe it will rebound. Maybe not to the NPC level, but I think it will be close.

Guess what? If you read what the idiots in charge said, you would know that it is already in the pipeline.

"Another cost is that being mugged is much more likely while abroad and to mitigate that risk"

  • 10 second mug protection
  • 500k max for flowers/plushies, no one's going around for 50k> mugs

players have to actively get their goods and get back in the air ASAP.

If you're flying for money, every second you spend abroad is money down the drain. The reason to get back in the air asap is to continue making money...?

When I used to fly for money, and when I do now, I set an alarm and live my life. Quirky.

Wait .. you mean Ched doesn't hate some of us sometimes and others of us other times? He hates us all equally?
