it would be nice to have a follow up post addressing some of the pitfalls / things that have been learned along the way

are we any closer to chat being labelled 'complete'?

what about those other things like group chats, and if we dare to dream more than the last 20 lines of text in a conversation?

Not sure If you saw but they are working on chat 3.0, so don't think chat 2.0 will ever be complete.

So I assume all those other things you mentioned will probably wait for that.

If you check announcments from Ched you will see a lot of peiple working on chst 3.0 but thats all we know.

I do hope we will be able to throw memes in chat at some point. And as you said. It would be nice to see what faction members spoke about while we werent around, not only like last. 10-20 messages

I’m pretty sure chat 3.0 is a completely in house project. From what I read here and there, it seems like they were limited to what they could do with 2.0 as it was an outsourced platform. That’s one of the reasons why there were so many hiccups in fixing and patching it.

chat 2.0 worklist?

No; due to the significant changes required in 2.0 they decided to release 3.0 when its ready.

There won't be any updates re chat 2.0 and if they are they would be minor as the reason they moved to 3.0 is that they can't complete what they intended to complete despite spending significant resource.

It doesn't make sense to waste time and resources into chat 1.0 if you still plan to move to chat 2.0 at some point.

Either way, just pick one and focus on that, it's pointless to keep working on both if one of them won't be used, especially if chat 2.0 uses a newer software and libraries should be easier to maintain in the future.

When developing something, try to not reinvent the wheel, especially with modern technologies it's easier to import stuff maintained by other people (tweaking them a bit is okay) than to start from scratch.

No matter what you choose there will always be bugs and problem so the choice should be the easiest one to work on.

You rollback IMMEDIATELY or push through the issues and make a plan to attack them, agreed.

The worst projects I've ever done aren't when they change scope, it's when they change platform. Got paid 50k to undo someone else's 60k project and then make their old system work again.

110k to go exactly nowhere (Performance was better, backups worked again, business could operate).

I don't have on-going work for that business, it's currently being phoenixed as the fail project happened at the same time that the economic downturn smashed their retail business. Owner wanted to murder his accounts lady that did the project, and he still may.

The 'let's improve and expand' project became 'let's get this guy to consolidate everything so we can fire 80% of our workforce and sell two locations'.

My initial vote here was roll back, but as the initial deployment went through and they decided to buckle down and work on what they had in place it just gets to a time where the ship has sailed and you gotta float it with what you have, not what you'd like.

Let's hope 3.0 launch is f**king spectacular

5 months later. Still no notebook. This game is awesome. At least take notebook off the donator page if you're never going to fix it.
