You don't have to spend any many, it just provides an advantage to those who chose to buy donator packs/subscriptions.

When you're new, the game is certainly p2w/prog faster, but the effectiveness falls off pretty fast unless you have absurd amounts of disposable income.
I'd quite honestly say finding a friend/faction who can help you would be more beneficial to your progress than a pile of donator packs, so that should help you understand the effectiveness :)
Easily dont need to spend money
It's like runescape but less lag.
Free Player here, it's a grind but nothing is out of reach if you work towards it. Pick a goal and go for it just don't aim to high to start.
You can play without spending money, but yes Donators get a larger Energy Bar and a faster Energy Generation.
You can however grind a little bit, travel, get some cash flow going and then buy Donator Packs from other players.
Subscribers get a couple perks that Donators don't, but nothing game breaking. I would prioritize getting Donator Status by buying packs from other players tho. It's a very significant difference. But totally doable without paying a dime.
