What do you mean pretending? Any new player taking this game half way seriously looks at the steps they need to take to progress at a reasonable level and understand that at best, they might break even on daily costs IF they can ensure they are available to fly every moment they land. Daily cost to cover a 50% of a PI with spouse, plus 3 Xan, plus a refill is just under $4 million. Thats just about what a full time flyer can expect to make now a days if they fly none stop. You start looking at doing choco jumps, and 48 BB of Chocolate is costing around $2 million now. Daily choco jumps are now literally too expensive for fulltime flyers. And forget happy jumps. Those are out of the question. That's not to say there aren't other ways to make money, but the only other daily way to earn money in Torn for a new player is trading, which requires FAR more active work in game, some network to play with, and and comes with far more risk. And that's ignoring the upcoming Item Market 2.0 which will surely cut significantly into profits there as well.

Again, it would be one thing if this change had come at the same time as these "new revenue streams" Ched talked about. But of course that never happened.

Remember the news article where the economist said points have already levelled out since then they’ve dropped by another 4-5% if not more

Friddles [2759779]

Not sure if you saw, but there was another forum post (made by a friend of mine) where the author noted that one player bought up some ungodly number of points right before that article--something like 300,000 points? I won't get into the conspiracy theories because I'm not big on those in any regard, but at the very least it appears a significant portion of that uptick was driven by individual actor's manipulating the short term market for whatever reason.

I just feel bad for all those who were/are a part of Flight Club, as they were hit one of the hardest from this. Not sure if they were even able to offload their points prior to the change. Next year’s will be extremely lack luster for them though, if things stay the same, especially now that points are $34,630 a piece.

Over the next month, we will review the balance of Point supply and consumption.

Hopefully we get to hear the results of this monitoring that's definitely been taking place since the end of May, and of course wasn't just empty words.

Why are you pretending to care about new players? If your income stream has been affected than say so.

I run a faction full of new players and trust me, they don't care, they don't know any different. They're as happy as you can imagine to earn $1-2m a day running plushies.

Other new players 2 months old already have networths of $200-300m. This really hasn't affected new players as much as everyone keeps crying that it will.

Just means instead of earning 100 mill a month, they will earn 70-80 (Not seen the bottom yet) flying was not for just newbies with little wealth. Flying is/was a large part of the game for easy passive income. now that income for everyone has been reduced. (not talking about people with 100s of billions)

so rich peoples passive income has not been hit but all new players have 0 chance other than luck in casino or P2W

"This really hasn't affected new players as much as everyone keeps crying that it will"

25% lost income while every basic necessity for a new player (xan took a 5% hit only) remained the same means significantly more damage to NW growth than 25%.

3x xan, E refill, PI rental/upkeep, Beer, DP, Rehab, comes out to around 5,000,000 a day(about 250k more pre nerf admittedly). And new players lack job stats, battle stats, and crime skill making their income from most sources aside from travel and loss selling minimum.

Pre nerf travel gave about 6m, enough to cover all upkeep and give a 750k profit(adjusted for old points price). New travel income however only gives 4,500,000. Which means operating 500k in the red daily. So not only stopping NW growth but introducing a NW decline.

If that's not harming new players idk what is.

Apolinus [3017918]

That slow decline is the desired outcome.  Like most addictive games of this nature, the goal is for it to be enticing but absolutely not self-sustaining without inputting cash.

So now if you want to grow your NW, you have two choices:

You can nerf your Xanax growth OR you can put in real cash.

The hint was when they said they wanted to avoid P2W; that’s exactly what’s been implemented.  It’s by design.

It’s like when a three year old tells you he hasn’t snuck chocolate, and his face is smeared with it.

Elzeothis [2961389]

Say it louder for those in back still protesting that this will continue to be F2P.

It is F2P because of whales - and gearing up to turn over 50% of the player base into the payer base.

? You know the cost of spliting a PI, using 3 Xan a day, and buying a point refill? $4 million. Roughly what a flyer is being in today if they CONSTANTLY fly. Forget Happy Jumps. Those are out the window now. Can't even save for them. Forget Choco Jump Too. 48 BB of Chocolate costs nearly $2 million now. New players who want to take this game half seriously can't rely on flying alone anymore. Problem is there really isn't any other options out there for them either, at least not a daily option.

VCR [2687434]

Do you have xanax intake requirements? A lot of factions do. And usually it's high enough that rehab is a must, which starts it's own chain of growing costs that most people need to actually build up other income sources for. Sure, it's fine at first when you can spend 250k for a few days of xanax addiction (with toleration, at least), but eventually, 3 xanax in a day costs 6.8m in rehab (with toleration, and the excursion rehab cost reduction).

And yeah, for your faction, with players that play that way, it's completely fine, and I do genuinely think it's not that bad for players who are more casual about this game. But the serious players that shape the overall landscape of the game do genuinely care about the sustainability of a serious playstyle at an early level (although I really think they push it way too much as the only way to play, but that's a rant for another time), from the very positive stance of building up a community, a moderate view of an exchange of services (faction perks for war/chain performance, revive contracts, etc), to the pessimistic view of exploiting new players of whatever they have to contribute, anything that makes people enjoy the game less and leave earlier will be worse for all of them, especially new players missing out on what can genuinely be a really fun game.

My stance? I've seen games kill off the new player experience, and it's one of the saddest ways for a game to die. Before it's actually shut down. I don't think it's drastic enough to kill the game alone, but it's rarely ever one single thing that kills a game. It's a slow accumulation that eventually creates an impassable wall. I expect new players to join a high end faction, be able to eat xanax like I did in college, grow stronger than me, and be able to beat me in a fight at a decent rate. Flying kinda stopped being able to do that, unless you dedicate the entirety of your income to building up NW to eventually use months from now. Which for a first week player, is going to feel like a long ways away. Especially after whatever was likely done to even reach level 15, like selling losses, or wars that might not exactly be the most fun or exciting in the position they are most likely in.

Multiple playstyles in a game doesn't mean that a certain playstyle can't be objectively better, it's damn near impossible to make different playstyles equally effective even. But there's a difference between "optimal" and "viable", and a xanax heavy playstyle funded solely by flying wasn't optimal once RW came out, arguably never was optimal with traders existing or the absolute poker legends of this game, but it was at least viable. And now it ain't.

Emerix [2187675]

Selling losses with 1 of the 3 xanax you take every day gives you 3 million. That covers 3/4th of your daily costs.

You yourself say that you can make 4 mil flying. 1 mil to cover basic costs and 3 mil to build your bank investment to 2 bil.

DkOP [2255896]

Why should flying alone be able to sustain split rent, 3 daily xans, and a daily refill. Its a nice padding to income but shouldnt be able to cover everything. Flying locks you out of the entire game. I hate traveling, its very boring and I can that majority of torn agree with me on that aspect. Does it suck for frequent flyers that their game style is not what it was? Yes. But the same could be said for almost every other style. LMs were nerfed, Stocks Nerfed multiple times, Reviving was nerfed, Mercing was nerfed, RW payments have been on a slow steady decline for quiet some time, Monthly rentals of PIs have also been on a decline for quiet some time. And I imagine PSFs are on their way to join the list eventually. Comes to point you just got to adapt man. Because the change was done and they arent going to reverse it.

Apolinus [3017918]

Adapt in what way?  You yourself just listed what happened to every option.

Just say the word.  Adapt means ‘pay’.
