In the latest patch list here:
there is something weird:

How you switch to non-existend gym?
Direct requests to who ... or what?
What is going on ... and who can explain this above?

I assume this is where there is a direct request link to change to a gym that you could click on from outside. It'll then put you in a gym you dont have access to and break it because you cant switch back.
It doesn't say "to gym the player didn't have rights to access" ... it says "non-existent" ????????
How you switch to something that doesn't exists????
Semantics. It's a bug. You're not supposed to be able to do it, but someone probably found a way and reported it.
When you click the change gym button, what actually happens is your browser sends a tiny piece of data to the torn server and waits for a response back, then updates the page. It sends parameters that the button has predefined, but you can manually change and send that request with your own parameters, without clicking the button. Someone probably put in some random data and broke their gym.
