I don’t think most of the weapon makers are too strict about their names being used on games, lots of shooters with actual gun names.

Let me rephrase that, so the powers that made the decision to change the names of the cars even though there was possibly no reason (happy to be corrected) will also change the names of the weapons and drugs?
Tbf Xanax and Vicodin are good examples of where Torn theoretically could find themselves in hot water, as they’re brand names. In general, licensing agreements are needed to cover names, logos and design/images. It’s a difficult area for game devs to navigate.
Torn makes enough money to have explored their position, IP lawyers are pretty cheap across most jurisdictions(for lawyers, anyway).
