Torncon Canada?!

I’m not sure how many Canadians we have playing this game, but the USA and UK are just far too far to travel for a meet up. 

I live in Winnipeg, and if we’ve got enough Canadians willing to travel to Manitoba, the Center of Canada to host our own Canadian torncon. Anyone and everyone would be welcome from other countries if they wish to travel; 

we could rent out a room in the convention Center, request the dev team to come guest star, set up booths for different factions .. recruiting campaigns .. torn themed games.. whatever … the possibilities could be absolutely endless !!

Canada doesn't exist.  What are you talking about??

I'm sure bogie or some admin has the ability to look at statistics to get number of players in Canada, but the players in the US and UK far outweigh any other nations as far as I know.

Like flare said, this wasn't just a new thing. It's been around for years in the USA.

Evaline does the majority of all the work, and there's a LOT to do to organize a massive meetup.

Practically a part time job. If you can find someone that's willing, there could definitely be a TornCon Canada, but it's not just all meeting at a bar and drinking beer for a night. Evaline has organized and reserved spots for like 15 events over 5 days for the New Orleans TornCon 2024. Including room reservations and everything. It's going to be a literal vacation for it's attendees. 

A Candian one would be very cool. But I agree lots of planning. You'd have to imagine many people from out of town. And activity ideas for a broad spectrum of people/tastes isn't easy. And most won't come for 24hrs but might need a few days worth of mini events.  (Winnipeg has a mint right?)

Is this where I grumble it's so expensive to fly within Canada. Flair/swoop help. But in general it's crazy in cost comparison to flying to US or even overseas sometimes versus a cross Canada flight.

I've got some friends in Winnipeg. I guess it's as good an excuse as any to go visit them.

I know of 6 of us within a half hour of Winterpeg, but I don't know if any would go, let alone a Newfie or Vancouverite would fly in. 

Interesting idea though. The CC isn't cheap, may wanna rent a venue at Club Regent or MSC and have some dude named Leslie kick us all in the throat for a real authentic Torn experience. 

Afterwards, we could go walk downtown for another one. 

I'm in Ottawa, I might hit up Toronto or Montreal....Halifax in the summer...but I am not going to Winnipeg for anything outside of medical emergency.

I suppose logistics would play a large role . Centralizing may not be as important as other factors. Centralizing only really benefits driving and who has the time to drive two days out 2days back. Flights out of small centers in Canada always route to larger cities. If I fly to Winnipeg that's three planes for me. A Canatornacon is harder in Canada than the states as air fair is so much cheaper down south. Besides if we're hosting (possibly) internationally you have to make that travel accessable aswell location location location .

I know it would take work. Absolutely. Months of prep I’m sure. Flawless liquidity and communication. 

yes we have the royal Canadian mint, human rights museum, the forks, murder, and we are the Slurpee capital of the world.

I'm in Ottawa,  and air travel within Canada is ridiculously expensive! It's also a massive land area. Ontario is next to Manitoba, but it sure as heck isn't a quick road trip.  23 hour drive from my city. 40+ hours by train. It's not very realistic for those living in a province even further away to make a road trip of it . It's actually cheaper to fly to the USA or the UK than it is to fly from one province to another in some cases.

I was actually in Winnipeg in June . I enjoyed it, even with the sketchiness going on . It's not like any other major city doesn't have the irl Torn-like areas . The human rights Museum is amazing. I would go back again, but I don't think it's the destination that's going to draw the Canadian players in. I do like the idea of  Canadian Torncon though.

Manitoba is centre of Canada?  

Not travelling back that way again for... Maybe ever. Already been through in 2022 and 2023.
