I think it's pretty obvious this is a scam, but please walk me through the thought-process anyways. If someone wanted to put $2.5m on black, why wouldn't they just do it themselves?

yeh, but that's the same as if they put 2.5m on black and won themselves. they'd get the same amount of money so what's the point? i don't see any benefit.
