Increasing the cost per option in the point shop will not increase the value of points. The demand for refills is driven by the cost of points and vice-versa. If point price of a refill increases the price per point will decrease to compensate for the lack of demand created by the swell in cost.

Also this will hurt the price of flushies even more dramatically than the removal of the points from the pawnshop.

Im guessing there's gonna be a rollback soon after if im correct in my assumptions.

also to add to this there will be a short increase to point costs as the change is announced due to FOMO of higher prices in future however this will be short lived imo.

Those poor new players need to work harder to buy points and have to pay more to use them while we had years of the benefits of refilling 5 points cheaper ... My condolences ... =(

Ched, how on earth does this make sense? You're only increasing the points cost for refills, which experienced players would be able to afford anyway, but now new players have to spend even more to get the refill which they already struggle to afford?

I just have to say that I appreciate the communication on the points shop changes.

-We've known changes were coming for a few months

-We've been given a change date that's reasonable (1 week away)

-We've been given transparency in terms of what the changes are.

Props to Ched + team for learning from the pawn shop fiasco + taking Torn community feedback to heart.

Edit: Quick! Panic-buy all the friend and enemy capacity you can!

im imagining the traders that have been anticpating this post are absolutely loving this announcement window as a perfect opportunity to dump after cheds pump before the changes are rolled out.

This.

The value for a refill is currently scaled around its referred dollar value, not the amount of points. If you increase the amount of points, but do not touch supply or demand in any meaningful way (we have 90mil+ oversupply) we're looking at simply the price of points dropping until the same dollar value is achieved.

This means that price of points will DROP, further hurting flyers. Jesus Christ on a motorcycle, what a f*cking delulu take on economics.

I bitch at Ched the dunderhead a lot, so I try to make a conscious effort to be fair when the occasion warrants: I do think the ability to buy honor bars and the like with points is a long-overdue and good addition. Absent this change, a lot of those things just weren't ever going to be available and earning new merit points becomes difficult at a certain point.

The bad: I don't think price increases are the move here, despite their modest nature. As has been pointed out a billion times already, player incomes were decimated by the Pawn Shop Debacle; raising prices, even modestly, in the face of falling incomes is a terrible idea.

The questionable: The Brain Trust has indicated that their "fix" to this would be to address the oversupply. I'm not quite sure this does much to address that, frankly. While you will get a number of players spending +10 points per day relative to before, that's not a huge amount. Outside of Energy and Nerve, it was my understanding that the rest of those purchase options were seldom used to begin with; making them slightly more expensive seems unlikely to change that. So, overall I kind of question whether this "fix" is going to be enough to soak up the oversupply and it certainly does very little to fix the price collapse that's ravished the Torn economy over the past 3 months. For now, enjoy the bubble and don't be on the wrong side when it pops!

Don't worry, we got an "accomplished economist", he knows better, just trust in the magic and don't you dare to use logic.

It's already a problem that 1-2 year old signups can't afford refills because they have to prioritize dead money in bank and stocks, let's help them by increasing the points costs of these refills.

I swear Wolf can't consider more then one aspect at any time, all the changes are reactive with singular focus without even vaguely considering the wider implications and the effect it will have on the other issues he is trying to tackle separately.

Use a piece of paper or MS Paint and draw a flowchart or something if you can't visualize it, economy isn't a number of closed systems, it's an ecosystem where every aspect affects everything else.

Not seldom used per se, but since they're long-term limited purchases, once you do it enough times that's it. The friend and enemy list upgrade is infinite, but realistically there's only so many people you'd want to add to those lists, unless you're a trader who wants to blacklist suspected buymuggers.

The demand for refills is due to it being the second cheapest way of getting E, behind Xanax.

As long as there is a value to E and refills remain a cheap form of getting E they will still be used. Except now an additional 5 points is consumed per refil. And the other things

i was looking forward to all the new and innovative developments that were said to being added for points in the points store....

it seems all they did was increase the price wtf

Scuba [512975]

Someone just sounds really upset that they cleared their points without reading the Torn Economic launch which detailed the value of points, problems surrounding flowers and plushies, future plans, and everything else that would have been affected.
