I was speaking to someone and he laughed at me for believing in God. I was in the middle of typing my testimony to him, when I thought, maybe I should make a separate post where not only I can share my testimony, but others can share their testimony as well. Maybe reading our testimonies would inspire people to be less judgemental and less intolerant to people who believe in God. I will start with my testimony.

I used to be a pretty shitty person until about 22-23 years old. I was a loser thug always in the streets using and selling drugs(damn near every drug I can think of including quite a few research chemical drugs), drinking, fighting people, beating people up for no good reason, stealing, robbing, vandalism, lying, betraying people, pretty much anything I can think of besides murder, grape, some frauds, kidnap, and maybe a few other things. I used to interact with like 200+ people a day and everyone knew me and many feared me. I was a literal piece of shit basically. I didn't believe in God or any religion.

One day around 22-23 years old, I was crying in bed questioning life and what I was even doing or meant to do, because I became sick of myself and how f**ked up I was. I was in a depression hole. I decided to try to repent to God and ask for help and if he was real he would help me. While I was doing that, all of a sudden, I felt a rush of euphoria through my entire body and next thing you know, I was knocked out(I was not on drugs by the way lol).

When I woke up, I felt very different. I didn't feel depressed, angry, ready to go out into the streets again, or any of the common feelings that I had prior to that day. I felt like everything was good and that I was a new person with a new life. I even physically felt lighter somehow. I also felt like my brain had "unlocked" if you will, and I was able to use by brain and think way differently and better than I was able to prior to that day. Zombie brain was cured. I was off of auto pilot.

Since that day, I have not felt depressed one single time and still going strong today. I do occasionally feel sad or upset about something very temporarily, but it would never turn into a depression. I have not done drugs besides cigarettes and weed since then. I pretty must quit my old life cold turkey over night which I still wonder how I would have been able to do that without the help of God. I'm having a hard time quitting cigarettes today, but somehow quit a whole lifestyle overnight on that day.

At this point, I had faith that I just have to be Grateful, and do as much as I can to become a better person every day. I remembered learning some character traits in the alternative highschool I went to for teens with behavior problems. I wrote as many character traits as I could find online onto a piece of paper. I studied the character traits and their meanings, and began to self identify every flawed character trait I had and work on them all. Turns out I was a natural with many of the character traits, but they were just either suppressed, or used for bad before. I realized my strongest and favorite character trait was empathy.

This process basically became me behaving like I was my own project, which lead me to also realize that psychology is my strong suit as well. Now I use these strengths and lessons that I have learned to maintain myself and to get better by the day in as many character traits as I can. It is a forever journey, and it was and is all with the help of God. May God bless and have mercy on us all.

Interesting. So TL;DR, you were a selfish asshole and the only thing that convinced you to try and be better wasn't friends/family, morals, etc. No, it was the threat of eternal damnation, rotfl. Makes sense, considering your "old self" sounds a lot like how you're acting in the pol forums

ElHeffe [2564022]

Hey dude. I think you are doing yourself down.

You did the hard work. Not some god. Give yourself the credit for deciding to turn your life around and putting in the effort to improve yourself.

Palestine [2578434]

Its wasn't "eternal damnation" that made me change. My old self would not be able to do what I do on the forums today. Btw, I didn't say I became a perfect being.

Palestine [2578434]

I appreciate your compliment, but for someone like me to change over night like that is unbelievable. At least to me it is unbelievable. I've been trying for years to stop something as simple as smoking cigarettes, but just that has been more difficult for me than changing an entire lifestyle. I just quit like 2 weeks ago. Started again 3 days ago, and quit again today.

You don't have to believe in God yourself, but at least respect our decision to. You may not find a reason to, but we cant see a world without him.

Nekorah [1980720]

It was either the threat of eternal damnation or it was entirely unrelated to the god you decided to cling to.

you described your old self as an emotional asshole, and that's what you're acting like in the forums rather than trying to have a discussion with people who disagree with you

Nekorah [1980720]

It's not unbelievable for someone to do what seems to be a 180. Happens all the time.

If you want to believe in a god then that's fine, just admit that you're not doing it for anything more than emotional reasons. Post hoc rationalizations for god belief are common, but still just an attempt by your brain to make you think you actually have a rational reason to believe.

DedeSiregar [2430598]

It's for different context. People are never black and white. They have layers and nuances. ATM you are the one who acts like an asshole tbh.

Nekorah [1980720]

That's just because you haven't seen all the crazy nonsense he's been posting in the pol forums, lol.

i'm the only one here who seems to agree that people aren't just black or white.

And this guy has the gall to act like he's some sort of wisened rational facts-loving individual, and then he says a sudden change in his brain chemistry proved to him that a specific god really does exist, lol. None of that is rational or facts based, nor is it wise to rely on emotions for decision making

DedeSiregar [2430598]

Well ATM you are that toxic person.

It's like blindly call someone a bad father at home just because he is a bad manager at work.

Secondly like he said, whether you want to believe God exists or not, it is up to you.

You don't need to shove your believes down to anyone throat. It's called opinion Nazi. Now kindly move on and keep your toxicity in p&l. We don't need that else where but there.

Accountant [3171310]

Religion is like a penis.

It's nice to have one and fine to be proud of.

Don't whip it out in public or shove it down someone else's throat.

ElHeffe [2564022]

I've a lot of respect for you. I think most of your forum posts are spot on.

I think this is one of those "agree to disagree ones".

Nekorah [1980720]

I'm toxic for pointing out his hypocrisy? Sure buddy, lol.

It's not anything close to thst bad analogy either.

And yes, I do agree that he said it's up to the individual. And likr I also agree, he's said that he thinks he has actual proof that his god exists.

I'm not shoving any beliefs dosn anyone's throat either, I'm just pointing out his flaws.

You're the one bringing in toxicity by getting emotional and not understanding the situation.

I once went to a Doctor for depression and he gave me the cure. He said if you want to be happy in life you have to live what you believe otherwise there will be internal conflict that will result in mental health issues.

I have been living my beliefs since and like you, I may experience sadness, grief etc, but the life crushing burden of long term depression is absent now. I don't take any anti-depressants, subscribe to or practice any religion, or engage in any other kind of mental health treatment.

Humans have choice, but we also have an internal dialogue. A constant chat going between our conscious and subconscious minds. If those voices are in accord then we have mental health. If they are in conflict we have bad mental health.

God did not save you from depression, you saved yourself by deciding to consciously live in a way acceptable to your subconscious self (and interestingly acceptable to most religions and  their God(s)).

The Doctor who gave me this pearl of wisdom just happened to be a devout Moslem.

Palestine [2578434]

If he is the one who gave you that information , but is a Muslim himself, you should wonder why. To each their own though. Im happy for you and glad you got better. I hope you continue to improve day by day and reach all the goals you have in life.

Palestine [2578434]

That is one of the reasons why I posted this. To show the type of feelings we have towards God and why. Maybe it will cause you and others to agree to disagree, agree, or disagree, but still respect our beliefs and understand why it is important to us.

I appreciate you brotha.
