This game is slightly different than most, I recommend reading a lot as much of what you're likely to think will not be a good move.   Some things can be slow to fix.   This is a resource management game with strategies measured in years if you choose.  Or it's just really good at watching numbers go up.  Good people here but like most places lots of salt too.

Familiarize yourself with the forums to be sure you're posting in the right section. General discussion isn't the spot for posts like this.

First you need to get started on the new player missions if you haven't already. They cover the absolute basics to get you on your feet, and have some pretty sweet rewards for completing them. (1050 Energy, 125 Nerve, $7000, and 25 Mission Credits)

Then read a good guide. You could be making millions of dollars daily within a couple of weeks with the right information from the start. We have a Tutorials and Guides section for you to browse. Absolutely Check out Baldr's Basic Advice for one of the first guides you read. It's long, but very comprehensive and considered one of the best guides for new players ever compiled:

Next you need to join a good faction to help guide you and to mentor you in the rest of the game mechanics.

Don't join any faction with less than 500,000 respect. There's over 350 factions with 1,000,000 respect or more that have active, engaging members and older high level players that would love to mentor a newer player such as yourself. Message the leader(s) of any faction before joining and ask what they expect of a new member. Ask what kind of faction it is, warring or casual. Ask about it's community. What the faction does to keep people engaged. "Shop around", and don't just join the first faction that invites you to join. Find that perfect fit.

And always remember that TORN is a marathon, not a sprint. You can play it hardcore, casual, off and on, however you like it to be. And it's built to last for years to come.

Read Baldr's basic advice in Guides forum, find a good faction in the faction recruitment thread (500k respect or above, avoid factions under 300k respect like the plague).

Your faction mates will help out with advice on anything that Baldr's guide (and other guides) don't cover.

Lastly, this game isn't a sprint, it's a marathon, gains come over time, if you keep up decent pace of progress, both financial and more importantly, in training battle stats, you will get places, if you try to go hard, you will burn out and quit because there will be nothing to do.

One more thing, wrong forum.

I'll give you the best tip you can ever receive. Trust no one! If someone gives you advice get a second opinion and a 3rd of need be. There are people here who just want power over you and try to  manipulate you. It's crazy I know l, but it exists here.be inquisitive and read the forum guides. The guides are your friend here. Join a respectable faction with more than one or two members. They will help you grow. Small factions with 1 or 2 members is huge red flag. Good luck on you journey.

Can confirm, small facs aren't that great, I've got experience. Factions with more respect and people are better by a longshot, both for more faction perks, and more people who can help you out and give info if need be. Given some previous stories, I also personally wouldn't trust faction banks either, given how there's been stories of people given too much trust and stealing BILLIONS worth of cash from factions. I usually pull any payouts from RWs immediately. Stocks are better anyway imo, some dividends can be really nice.

Don't play without using xans, if you can't afford them, sell losses. 

That's the advice i wish i had gotten when i started playing. the guides seem overwhelming at first. But imo the first prio should be using 3-4xans per day. Training first, everything else you can gradually learn.

I'd rather be in a small faction with a decent brotherhood, than whining and crying that your faction leaders are doing you wrong.

The huge red flag is hanging with people who treat you like crap, because eventually,  your own self turns into the same kind of asshat.
