Mostly to share the benefits of a Private Island home. Usually you or your spouse pays rent and the other pays upkeep. The base happines of renting a maxed out PI and the airstrip upgrade and pilot as staff, are a huge part of living on a PI as well. As said above there are also many commitment merits associated with staying with one spouse for a period of time.
This doesn't have to be the limitation, as me and my spouse are also business partners. It's usually a good jumping off point for trust, as your finances will be linked loosely via rent/upkeep. Me and my spouse work together on just about everything, while some people never even talk to their spouse after marriage.
